Better on the water bottle cage. I have had 2 aluminum frame failures, 13,000 miles on each. No, it they didn't explode either.

I had the same thing happen to one of my aluminum water bottle cages, it was 12 years old and used hard. I had it welded by one of the welders I worked with.
