Would you rather buy an overpriced part or a whole new COVID vapor bike ?
COVID bike and parts shortage spikes prices of all. You need a new bike part.
Do you suck it up and overpay for the part, or enter the COVID shortage marketplace of new bikes ?

Why did you start a new thread?
Help! Friend broke his 2009-2014 Campagnolo Chorus derailleur Not to mention, why are you so obsessed with what your "friend" does with his bike?

As to the question: it depends on the part! Why would I look for a new bike if it's a replaceable part like a derailleur? If I couldn't source the exact RD, I'd put on something else I had that would work, or buy something which would work at a not-totally crazy markup until I could get what I really wanted.
Guess I don't get it either.

There have been about 168 million confirmed COVID cases and 3.5 million deaths. I see room for lots things to be concerned about. The price of bicycle parts isn't one of them.

As I understand it, as the world is waking up from a yearlong slumber, there is a global parts and supply crisis hitting many different aspects of life. Are bicycles also being impacted?
Either the supply chains will get better, or we'll experience a period of inflation, perhaps followed by a normalizing of prices.

If a Potenza or Centaur will work, there are some of those on the Bay.

You can also just pay normal prices. That is what I recommend. None of the stuff at our shop aside from some bikes has gone up in price with any significance if at all. Yes some stuff has gone up a little but it has gone up a little before COVID prices increase in retail, back in the day a movie cost a nickel and now it doesn't.

Not Shimano, or even 2015+ Campagnolo parts which both have incompatible pull ratios.

We have never really been a Campy dealer so I don't believe we do anymore. I think we sold the last campy derailleur a year ago-ish. We stock cables and usually have a chain or two laying about but don't often have call for Campy. Nothing against them but we haven't really had to deal much with them and when we do we were usually able to order it. Obviously shortages these days have made it tough but our pricing again hasn't really gone up aside from some bikes and occasional tiny increases on parts but nothing major nothing super noticeable just a few bits here and there. Most things have stayed the same.
