COSTCO Selling Intense Model
The bike business just got a little more intriguing with COSTCO listing four sizes of a new model (I think) Intense FS bike on their site.

You gotta love how a $3000+ bike is viewed as entry level.

I mean full-sus carbon frame with dropper post, Fox shocks and 12 speed group with some other decent parts, not terrible. Maybe not the entry entry level market but certainly for someone looking to get a full-sus bike to start with and is actually serious about MTB this is fairly decently priced. Yes sure it is expensive when you can technically get a bike that has dual suspension at Wally-Mart for 200 dollary doos but for a real bike that can actually handle stuff and is pretty high end at a lower end price point for everything you are getting, I really can't hate on this quite as much.
I am probably not going to recommend this to someone just starting out and is unsure but that sure but doesn't want to plunk down 4-10k on something super nice this is a decent option. For instance the Stumpjumper Comp is an alloy frame with similar spec and around the same price or I can get carbon from the 951. If I were going full sus for someone new it would probably be a Stumpy but the base model alloy which is 1k less but still a decent bike.

Just for another example, Trek's bike at this price has an aluminum frame and a far cheaper fork

Costco used to have a house brand of decent Taiwanese bikes, named Motiv, equivalent to say REI's Novara brand. Not lately though.

Amazing: People buy bikes at that price from a big box store?
Anything over $750 is big money to me, and I expect top treatment from an LBS!
Living in a dream world, but I'm happy here....

I guess if you are capable of doing your own 'wrenching' and know the size you need, it makes a lot of sense.

Remember you get 3% cash back if you buy it with your Costco visa card. Throw some frozen burritos and a 5 gallon jug of laundry soap in the cart along with the bike.

didn't walmart start selling high-end bikes a few years back? Why don't you ever hear about them? Probably just being ridden, but it's not like they made a big dent in the industry

This is Costco.com, not Costco the warehouse store. I'd be pretty surprised to walk in there to stock up on groceries and see anything other than low end bikes out on the floor.

Smart buying and values in proper priority. :-)
How else can anyone afford Wilmette?
Sorry - couldn't resist. Wilmette is wealthier than Evanston, my home, but less wealthy than Kenilworth, Glencoe, or Winnetka, or many other places. There's lots of financial distress on Chicago's North Shore, but for most of the area, any competition is between relatively privileged people.

It's irritating they don't specify the components precisely on the webpage. But it's easy to return stuff to Costco.

This bike looks pretty sweet. As for buying a $3500 bike from Costco(.com)... is it really any different than buying a $3500 bike from Canyon, or Bikes Direct, or any other online retailer? If you know what you're looking for and confident in size, this is likely a great deal. Plus they are in-stock...

Haha, it's too fancy for the guy with the second-millennium bikes (and cars) and not fancy enough for the other guy who wants to pay his $3250 for a used $6500 bike. Therefore I think it'll do fine!
