This needed a thread.
OR...
Only the first letter of a sentence is capitalized.
OR...
Sentences should end with some form of punctuation, generally a period.
OR...
When eliminating part of a word an apostrophe should be used.

This is three minutes of my life I'll never get back.

When pointing out parts of a bike does one say, “Well, thems the brakes”? Or if you lock up the rear wheel, is it “Braking bad”? Or did you know that cheap Chinese brakes break? I pity foreigners learning English.

I honestly never understood anyone who capitalizes every word in every sentence. I'm not talking about all caps, But Text That Looks Like This. I mean, that would be so much work when typing it'd be a total PITA. Yet some people still do it for some reason. Must be a sign of a diseased mind.
And while we're giving proper English instruction here, can we please adhere to the rule of using "who" or "whom" when referring to people and "that" when referring to objects? I don't know why but it's a pet peeve of mind when I read something like "the guy that lives down the street."

I think the one time I've used "decimate" this year was to describe the crash related injuries in the 2021 Tour de France that forced some key cyclists -- particularly the top sprinters -- to abandon.
Even that is pushing the boundaries of the original meaning of the word. In actual practice the only times anyone practices decimation -- in the form of corporal punishment or suspension of privileges -- anymore are (1) when we're kids and everyone gets punished for something one kid did but won't admit to, and (2) in boot camp, for pretty much the same reason.

Yup, the misuse of "decimate" is one of my pet peeves too. It was a perfectly good word with a specific, but somewhat flexible meaning. But it's been diluted to a fancypants way of saying "destroyed."

Nonsense. The "destroyed" usage of the word is of very long standing, and is a far more common usage in English than any reference to ten percent or punishment. Seriously, this is a pedantic "correction" made by people willfully ignoring centuries of English usage. The one-tenth punishment definition still exists, but it describes a situation so unusual that the word would have virtually no use. Also, there's a completely separate definition for taxation of 10% and tithing.

When I do it, it's a typo enabled by spell-check.
When others do it, it's indicative of their uneducated, slothful existence.
Clearly.

A few years ago I wanted to buy a custom stem cap with a message that would motivate me to push it when racing my buddies. When I look down I get a burst of energy and drope the hamer on their asses.

If that's aimed at the "decimate" comment , people who are arguing that the original Latin meaning of the word was ever the main meaning in English are just wrong. You want to waste your breath arguing with Merriam Webster, knock yourself out.
By the way, English is full of words with Latin roots that have almost nothing to do with the English usage. You're posting on a "forum", for crying out loud.
You are actually claiming that virtually everyone who uses the word is incorrect, not just me. When you claim the uncommon usage is the only correct one, you're the one being pedantic, not the person who points out your "correction" is absurd.
Sorry if your pretentious, incorrect pedantry is making you sad. I really don't care what you dry your tears on.
