I know who Sliwa is. I lived in and near NYC back then. He was constantly grandstanding and getting himself into the local news. I'm just surprised to find he's still relevant, or thinks he is.

To some extent he served a purpose when NYC was fairly dangerous in some areas like certain subway routes, although I thought it was exaggerated. As a kid and young teenager I roamed NYC and had no problems. The suburbs like Mount Vernon where I lived were far more dangerous.

He's just the latest in a long line of self-aggrandizing New York City populist demagogues, although not as bad as some. But it wouldn't be NYC without guys like him.

The helmet strap is also strangely loose, as if the helmet isn't properly fitted. My guess is that this is a staged photo-op, with the staff throwing the pieces together and getting him to take the picture. Likely not a bike rider in the least. PG
