Fork backwards, QR looks wide open. If he thinks that's how to best experience the city, wait 'til gets on a properly built bike.

That photo has great impact. A photoshop expert might reduce contrast. The backward fork is funny but is there a weird castor effect or not ?

Personally, I would recommend bicycling in Prospect Park and not commuting, possibly, within inches of speeding car fenders.

Now I did suggest that the Honda Super Cub should be allowed in moped laws. That's a motorcycle with a 125cc engine, a four-speed transmission, and an automatic clutch. The relatively large diameter tires of the Super Cub makes it similar to a bicycle.

This is why we laugh at idiots from the city. I wish that whole area would slough off into the ocean, pulling Long Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut with it. There's some forward thinking for you.

Does he at least get any credit for riding a bike that is about the right size for him?

Just another oblivious politician virtue signaling to the rest of us lowly citizens on how we should live. I'll bet this guy rides about as often as I give press conferences. Would be cool to see a savvy reporter ask the question "if you are such an avid cyclist, why are the forks backwards on your bike?"

Look at movies from the 1950's and kids rode bicycles with the forks backwards, with the ends of the handlebars pointing upwards, with playing cards clipped against the spokes, and with anything else they could think-of.

Also, there were roller skates for Christmas and possibly homemade skateboards.

So the politician's backwards fork might be a purposeful poor-kid genre and that would be very creative.

Well, I have a some experience with marketing materials and techniques. They are a little bit strange.

Problem is those bikes generally had coaster brakes, if any brakes at all.

When down visiting my nephew in Tucson in the mid-80's, I built him a crate box scooter with roller skate wheels front and back and a 2x4 floor. He loved it. We had built those in Da Bronx when I was a kid.

On older bikes, that can pull the brake pads out of their retainers.

I am a country guy and this may be more progressive than we ride here.

If he wanted to get people talking about cycling, that's one way to do it.

Is Curtis Sliwa still a thing? That dude was stirring the pot way back when I lived in NY, when he was a self-appointed subway militia leader wearing another style of red hat. Classic example of how a fear-based life philosophy leads to terrible wannabe politicians. He and his spokesmodel wife Lisa who looked like extras from the movie The Warriors.

He was the head of the Guardian Angels. He’s running for Mayor of NYC this year:
