Need opinion on a Motobecane

I found a bicycle for sale near me.
It’s a Motobecane Super Mirage. The ad said 51 but I don’t know if that’s a model or size.
It’s new but the owner bought a different bike and didn’t finish getting this one ready to ride.
It’s orange if that helps identify it and the pic showed disc brakes. It has Shimano Claris derailleur.

I have an old Raleigh Tri Lite that I need to replace. The shifter are on the downtube and not easy to use. It also has drop bars that I don’t like.
By the time I upgraded parts I could spend almost as much as buying another bike plus I would be stuck with old geometry and ride.

Thank you. I am 5’10” so it may be too short for me.

I'm 5'11'' and ride a 56. Depending on the brand and frame, you're going to be right there as well.

It's listed for $649 and is actually the Super Mirage SL.

Even according to their chart, it puts you on a 56. I'd recommend passing.

Thinking out loud here...are you sure the 51 was not actually SL? You may want to contact the seller.

The seller listed it as 51. From talking to the seller the man who bought it was about 4 inches shorter than me. I think it will be too small for me.

I enjoy good socks. Always looking for them, especially if they fit. Prefer new vs. used. Disc brakes required. Not orange. Definitely not orange. Some people who wear socks are taller than me, and I have some socks that I've never worn because I bought other socks. I considered upgrading the yarns in one of my favorite socks, but I decided to stay retro old school on that foot and left it stock. I'm sure my unworn socks would fit some people. I also like hats.

It doesn't sound like an actual Motobecane of France but a name attached to some cheap-o stuff from Bikesdirect. The seller is probably asking more or close to the same than the faux pricing that BD attaches to it "Normally $5000 now only 299.99"

Claris is not really worth much and a BD frame is in the same boat, maybe not terrible on the frame front in some cases but generally not worth enough to buy those used for high prices.

I think BD bikes are OK, it's just that you shouldn't believe their 'list' or 'compare to' prices. You should also remember that one reason they have lower prices is because there's no dealer setup. The lower price makes them attractive to first-timers, but first-timers are the ones that need the dealer support. :/

All three of my bikes are Motobecanes from bikes direct. They are fine bikes, but if the frame doesn't fit you, FORGETABOUTIT!

BD bikes also appeal to ex-bike-store employees who find it hard to adjust to paying full retail for bikes. I've been very happy with the two BD bikes I've bought.

In 2017, I bought a Motobecane Omni Strada Comp gravel bike from Bikes Direct. Great value for what I paid... Shimano 105 components. I'm 5'10" with 55cm frame and it fits perfect.

I LOVE good socks! White (well, kinda off-white) and yes, never orange! I have several brands but FoxRiver “AthleticFox” are my favs. Don’t think that they are available with a disc brake option. 65% wool/35% “something stretchy”. I have two pair that I’m saving for use after I die. I almost never wear hats!

I have already passed on this bike. The frame size is too small.

Now I have to go research socks.
