Thought it would be interesting to see how people maintain and improve their rides. This could include bike builds, how to, and tools used. Could be learning or just interesting what people are doing. Pictures highly encouraged.
Today, I added new Cinelli bar tape/plugs and adjusted the seat back 3 CM and raked the nose down 2 mm.

I initially removed it immediately and put on a Selle. Rode that for two weeks, and switched to a Specialized. Still uncomfortable. So I put the original saddle back on and ahhhhhh….

Rewrapped the bar tape on my handlebar. It was looking pretty bad and had loosened up in places, and I thought I'd need to replace it, but after rewrapping it looks significantly better and should be able to be used for a few more months.
Also discovered that the barrel adjuster on my rear derailleur had come completely loose, so disconnected the cable only to discover that the threads on the barrel adjuster had completely stripped. Luckily I still had an old derailleur around whose barrel adjuster was in fine shape, so took that and installed it on my current derailleur, and after adjusting the cable correctly it looks like the shifting might be somewhat improved.

I usually start my rides before sunrise and I just bought a Niterider Lumina (900 lumens) to replace my 15 year old MiNewt 2x Dual (300 lumens). The light is outstanding, way brighter than I need for the road and I don't have to strap a huge battery to my frame anymore. These modern lights are pretty amazing. I almost got the 1800 but that's just way overkill. It would be nice for night time singletrack in the woods, though.
I also bought the K-Edge adapter for the light and a go pro adapter for my gps mount but I ordered the wrong thing. I just ordered a gps stem mount that has the go pro adapter on it because I don't want the light mounted on my bars.

Replaced 110mm stem with 130mm on my Ti Moto. The original sizing felt too short for me, now it is better. Had to add a 2mm spacer since the new stem is slightly smaller vertically.

I fixed a spontaneous “garage flat” with a replacement tube, loaded it on the car to go ride with friends, and halfway there got poured on so hard that the ride was called off. So, I took my bike for a drive in the rain today.

2nd ride with the Garmin Edge today. Thought I would be clever and scroll the pages and ended up loosing my main screen, converting to mtn bike, getting on the navigation screen and then a compass screen (who knew?)and accidentally stopping the session mid-way through. Then resumed the ride and stopped playing with the thing. Did my upload to Strava which worked, but recorded as two separate rides. Aye yi yi. So much to learn about the thing.

I recently dug my old Rockhopper out of the basement, after it sat there for a decade or more, and I've been swapping out parts since. I never rode it because I didn't care for the riding position so I'm addressing that now one part at a time. Tonight I added a stem I got off the 'Bay. Bike's original stem was way too long at 130mm. This Tomac stem is 100mm and looks almost new, plus it matches the new Answer riser bars I got a few weeks ago. Ended up having to remove a spacer because this Tomac is built like a tank compared to the bike's original stem. I didn't have much time tonight so tomorrow I'll fix the bar angle and brake levers.

Continuation of late last night I got outside today during lunch to work on the Rockhopper. Tilted the bars slightly, raised the brake levers, and gave the bike a much needed full wipe down. I have some new pedals arriving soon (hopefully) and I need to adjust the rear brake pads a little. I'm also tempted to add a dropper post just for grins and giggles.

cleaned & lubed the fork's stanchions & wipers. it's been a while

replaced the front brake pads & clips & cleaned the front disks. was getting a little squeak at the end of stops. all better now. whisper quiet

the old ones still had meat on them. don't think thickness should be the guide, as to when to replace. they're cheap enough

Replaced the grips with Sram Racing Grips 110mm that are made for grip shifters. Bike looks much better now (looked a bit weird with those blue 140mm Lizard Skins...see posts above). Sram grips are quite comfy as well. Still waiting for pedals to arrive. Photos once I get them on.

Found some bars and a stem at the co-op so decided to try something new. Got everything together and I guess these bars are wider and the stem is longer and now I can’t turn my bars without shifting the front derailer. So, I also ordered a new campy shift and brake cable and housing set.

After changing decades worth of removing and mounting tires, tried and epically failed to break the bead on the rear tire of my wife’s Specialized Como e-bike. Spent 30 mins fruitlessly trying to get it to budge. Tried every tool I had and no love. Took it to a LBS and they had it off in 2 minutes using brute strength.
