Grandson's bike refresh

Cheers!

Grandson's third bike! Already outgrew Strider and twelve inch coaster brake bikes. Gonna be 4 in June. This is used 16 inch coaster on way to hand brake conversion. He picked paint... Damn close to Celeste! That's my boy!

Have freewheel to replace coaster brake wheel and BMX style hand brakes to finish installing. That's the freshly painted wheel on back of frame in third pic. Still cheaper than buying Woom type quality bike and way better than Wally World bike. Expect to have at least two years of riding out of this one. Will post finished picture in a week or so. Still a little cold and want paint to have plenty of time to cure.

Cool!

I did something similar for my now-6 year old, but I just left the coaster brake on there (his twin sister got a pretty-much stock Frozen bike; I wasn't going to mess with it). Where did you get your rear wheel and brakes from? I tried to price that stuff out, but I felt it was more important to just get him riding.

Brakes came new from my LBS, Westerville Bike Shop. He ordered 'em. Odyssey 1999 caliper brakes. About 50 bucks. They are NOT side specific, so I have to flip left side lever. No biggie, just shows cable end.

Rear wheel was a challenge. Nothing in stock online, though prices were OK. Scoured local LBSs and found at Co-op for 35.00 with the sprocket.

He already knows how to use hand brakes. Wanted to be consistent with his other bike.

Paint is Rustoleum satin from hardware strore. Primer and color over fuscia pink and white.
