Drilling a bunch of holes in handlebars and making it a flute
 

Played around with a random flat bar the other day, blew into it and it resonated like a horn. That gave me the idea of drilling a bunch of holes in my actual bars and using them as an OTG wind instrument lol.
It's a beefy upright cruiser bike so I'd be extremely surprised if drilling holes would lead to any sort of mechanical failure

Yes! Drill lots of holes in your handlebars! You can tell us all about how it sounded once you’re released from the hospital. Be sure to include the x-ray pics with all the cool screws and plates.

Lol you're referring to the hypothetical crash i'm gonna experience at my top speed of 9mph because I went over a bumpy patch of bike lane after accelerating from the red light? all because the full 2-pounds of aluminum that I call "handlebars" couldn't take how hard I'm pulling back from my near-reclined riding position

I do hope that your flute handlebar will be capable of playing musical notes, because I can think of no more appropriate selection to perform while heading out into the world with a handlebar full of drilled holes than this...

We haven’t had a drilling holes thread in a while.

After your initial experiment experiment with flat bars, I think you should try a set of drop bars. The multiple hand positions for drop bars will certainly expand the range of notes. Join group rides and encourage others to do this and you can start a band and literally go on tour.

I don't think you'll hurt yourself, but at 9 mph I doubt you're going to get audible frequencies without a strong wind. Even if it's audible, it will probably just going to be a boring low pitched drone. It's going to take a lot of speed variation to get noticeably different tones.
But prove me wrong. It's your time to waste and handlebars to ruin.

So, you're going to be blowing into the end of your handlebar while it's attached to the bike?

Ahh. That would make it a less-bad, but still bad, idea.

Some years ago among the parade of wacky bike products were grips that you play like a flute, powered by the passing air.

Looked, but couldn't find it.

This could be great for those people with noisy press-fit bottom brackets. Could drown out the squeeks.

Not just handlebars , but the frame and fork and seat post too, that way your whole bicycle can be used as a flute.

Try to finger that while riding :lol:

Just put a bell or horn on the handlebar, it's a lot safer and won't catch attention of dogs (ridiculous positions / movements on the bike is known to cause dogs to chase you)

Remember back in the 80s when the weight weenies started drilling out every accessory on the bike to make it lighter. Oh they were light ok, but they never made it to the finish line.
