my wife washes my cycling clothes. I'm not allowed to do laundry anymore, something about bleach or shrinking...I forget.

Help me out here. You're traveling coast to coast on an electric bike? Are you limited to 30 or so miles a day because of the battery? do you carry a spare battery? and why does it cost you just under $250 a day? Is it because you are credit card touring? When I go camping on the bike it costs me maybe $12 a day for food, plus $15 on average for a campsite, so I assume you're staying in motels and eating in restaurants?

Not everyone on a bike is experienced. We were all newbies once, even people on expensive bikes that don’t know what they are doing. I remember back in the 80s riding my Schwinn Varsity 5 miles from home with just a pump on the frame because all I ever had were slow leaks. Then I had a major flat and was stranded. Another cyclist stopped and had all the equipment and a patch kit and schooled me on what I needed to buy so this would never happen again. I have paid that forward several times. I have also picked up a stranded cyclist with a flat and took him to the local bike shop and discussed what he needed to buy for the future. If you have never changed a tire or fixed a flat it can be daunting versus a no-brainer.

I won’t even start on your use of mommy.

This thread keeps going like the Energizer Bunny. Okay, I'll play.
On a morning commute heading directly into the rising sun, a couple elderly ladies pulled up next to me and the passenger hollered that they could hardly see me.
(This occurred during a slight downhill part and my speed was already near the speed limit. Blinky light flashing and wide shoulder.)
I thanked them and watched them speed off at twice the speed limit.

I was told just tonight that I should not be on a road that I could not keep up with the flow of traffic. This was after a discussion about a cyclist that was struck and killed this morning on a road with a full sized bike lane after someone entered the lane while texting / attempting to drive.

None of the above, but she did not know that. She thought I was homeless due to life's problems. A little pizzazz with a straight face is all in good fun with an idiot. .
I was on a 750 mile local dirt tour, I have a battery 5 times larger than most e bike batteries (52 volts @ 49Ah). I do spend under $250 per day (somewhere around $20-$40) I tour totally self supported and prefer off road.. My normal touring is 70-120 miles a day.

These comments from drivers clearly show a lack of information they have about traffic laws and sources of funding for infrastructure.

In the spring issue of CAA magazine I received in Ontario, there were two articles addressed to people who are preparing to cycle when the weather gets better. It's the usual about being aware of traffic, safety gear, signals, bike lanes etc. I wrote back to the editor that there was one article missing. There should be one article aimed at drivers explaining that it's not ok to ride on the sidewalk, why cyclists ride in the middle of the lane when there are no bike lanes or when they are blocked and why they need the 1metre clearance when passing.

Lucky you! I had some guy yell that at me, that gave me the creeps!

One time while I was standing and cranking up this steep grade some guy smacked me the arse as they went by in their car. Weird. They were laughing, I'm glad I made their day...I think.

I had a guy throw a Pepsi plastic bottle about half full at me. I stopped the bike, picked up the bottle, and went after him, he was stopped at a stop light, so I unscrewed the cap and threw it through the open window and it hit him dousing him with Pepsi, bounced off of him and splattered all over the windshield and dash, he didn't like that much, but I doubt he did that again.

for me it was a couple of girls in a convertible. We all busted out laughing. As they drove away I thought they may have been laughing at me and not with me. Eh...was still funny.

Not sure this one counts because it was a passenger. I'm pulling up to an intersection when all of a sudden the sliding passenger side door on a van to my left pops open in traffic which I definitely felt threatened by. Some stupid teenage kid leans out and in a voice that was clearly intended to sound stereotypically gay said to me "I love your spandex!" I was wearing a cotton t shirt and cargo shorts, and said to him "I'm not wearing any F___ spandex, you moron" (yes, I was angry at the door opening bit). Immediately, I can hear the van-full of other teenagers turn on him for his absolute stupidity. "My work is done here", I thought to myself. He might even get a stupid nickname out of it.

I was going straight through an intersection (I had a green light) and nearly got right-hooked by a car that was passing Me & turning right.
I saw the nose of the car almost hit my front wheel as the driver passed me while turning right.
I was able to bail out to the right, and after I did I "asked" the driver WTF she was doing?

Her reply? "You didn't signal"
My reply to that: "I was going straight, I don't have to signal."
Her: "But I was taking a right."

I had a guy hang at least halfway out the passenger window and just scream the whole time the car passed. My favorite though, is the car that pulled through street side parking area on my right to pass me; cause the minute until I made my left hand turn would have been the end of the world. Why was it so long until I turned left? Because a cop car was coming in the other lane. The same one I saw do a Uturn for the right passing motorist as I finished my left. I think that dude was about to get a lesson in patience.
