I saw one like this where a guy was being stalked by a cougar, but he was armed with a pistol. He fired a few shots at it, don't think he hit it but eventually scared it off. The thing is if he'd only just put his phone away and concentrated on aiming, he'd likely have hit it.

I know what you guys mean about cats. A few years ago I was on vacation in Provence in a town called Sablet, We were out for a walk and had climbed to a lookout at the top of the hill the town is built on. There is a nice lookout there and we were admiring the view when this ferocious cat came out of nowhere and I was afraid that it would eat my leg
