That's ironic, rydabent , since you've turned off some bf'ers to the idea of recumbents.

Once there are enough people here with chronic postural issues and sore butts, we will eventually succumb, and the Chinese economic model will triumph. It's obvious that they are producing primarily recumbent bicycles for their own domestic use.

Fail if you can't work in George Soros.

So? If he knows what he likes, who does he owe it to to try something else?

The premise of this thread is that if people don't do things the way the OP wants, they are wrong.

My premise is that that is ... a fine opinion, worth about as every other opinion.

The "closed mind" remark though ... comedy gold.

For some reason my "Like" button has disappeared .... If I could "Like," I could comment less, which would make the whole world a happier place.

I hit the "like" button for the closed mind post because he's actually right. It's just amazing that he can't see how closed minded he can be.

OT: Has anyone noticed that this is more common among the elderly? My mother was pretty laissez-faire as a parent, but now (at age 84) she is just full of very strongly worded advice about everything.

When I was a kid, she wasn't paying attention while I was pouring sugar all over my Frosted Flakes for breakfast, eating candy before bed, and rarely brushing my teeth...And now I have more crowns than the royal family. If I lose one more tooth, I'm gonna have to move into a trailer park. But now, boy howdy, she's on me about everything: colonoscopies, prostate exams, etc. I just want to ask her sometime, "Why weren't you paying attention fifty years ago, when I needed some guidance?"

Polaris OBark 08-26-22 02:29 PM

Maybe she is worried about how you will do without her. Thank her for raising you to be a valued contributor to the BikeForums ad server.

He's probably right that wolfchild has a closed mind, but I don't think there's any requirement that we keep open minds on any particular type of equipment OTOH, I don't see the point in blanket "I'd never use ____" posts unless what we do or don't use is the topic of the thread or someone is claiming that "x is impossible if you don't____" and you're doing x without ___ IRL. Ryda is making a late-life career out of claiming that a bunch of stuff is impossible on a DF bike and that you need bents for those purposes, so he's pretty much asking for the "I don't ride bents" posts.

As my father used to say, "If I keep an open mind, someone will just dump a bunch of **** in it."

No, there is no requirement to keep an open mind but if someone says they don't use something, fine. I wouldn't berate them and tell them their bike is garbage. The whole relentless "butt pain" or "craning the neck" stuff gets pretty old. That just doesn't work.

I wouldn't say I would never try a recumbent, but I've had good experiences riding with people who have them. If that's the only way I could get out there, I'd do it. I feel the same way about e-bikes, even though some e-bike proponents on the forum can be obnoxious.

btw, one of the guys who was an early member of my road club is now 86 years old. He was never fast but he has ridden his age in miles every year. That's 86 miles on a regular, non motorized bike. Not flat miles, either.
