What's euphoric? When I get to the top of a long climb, and I still have some gas left in the tank.

I had that rare moment today, after around 2 hours of climbing. The legs felt fresh, the heart rate wasn't racing, I didn't feel gassed.

When I made the final turn, I cranked it up on the final straight away and finished strong at the summit.

I feel you. Love being on tour out west and conquering a long climb, especially when I do better than I thought I would. There’s something about the sense of accomplishment that picks me up at least a little even when I feel wiped. The feeling often comes back when I’m in camp, relaxing by the fire and looking back on the day. I sometimes say aloud “I can’t believe I did that!”

Several years ago in my early 30s, I belonged to the CASCADE bike club in Seattle. There was a subset group of CASCADE called CATS (Cascade Animal Training Series). There were about 20 core members and we would ride on weekends 65-75 miles each day at a pretty fast clip, since we were all good a pacelines. We would do as many centuries and doubles as were available locally. I had belonged to the group for four years and had managed to be the second or third fastest, but there was one guy that was untouchable.

One day we were finishing the usual mileage when the four fastest split off to ride around Mercer Island. On that day, I decided I was feeling especially strong and decided I would take on the fastest guy in a race around the island. We hung together for the first third, swapping places until I put on the afterburners and completely dropped him where he wasn’t able to draft. I managed to beat him by 30 seconds which was totally unexpected. The feeling of accomplishment being one of the fastest endurance rec-riders of the entire club of 15,000 made me ecstatic. I never was a good as I once was. That was my Monkey Shot.

Now my feeling of accomplishment comes from knocking off the fastest times for Strava segments for my age group. There is one guy, who is a former Cat 1, I will never be able to best on a number of them.

If I had $100 for time I’ve gotten something like that I could buy a cheap Giant bike.

Seriously…I have gotten a lot of those, especially from the locals while touring. But even my local bartender friend who I have known for over 18 years had said that more than once, including when I have finished tours at the bar. “Just thinking about that makes my butt hurt.”

Been spending a lot of time on the mountain bikes lately -- given my age and the fact that i've already got a laundry list of artifically enhanced bodyparts already, i tend to stay away from airtime theatrics, -- but the feeling of ripping a perfect bermshot at the edge of traction is still exhilirating.

A flat turn 2 wheel drift at speed, even if its only for a foot or two also brings the adrenaline --- even after 30 years of this crap

I grew up about a mile up Mt Hamilton road. In my much younger years, I probably rode to the observatory a dozen times.
Most of the other rides up, however, would mean a turnaround at Smith's Creek or at the other end of Hall's Valley.
Tough ride, no matter which route. Those final six miles to the observatory were brutal. Nice going, Terry.

I can appreciate this in a small way.
When I get to the top of my 14% grade that takes about 2 minutes,
I feel a sense of relief when I finally click up from lowest gear

Out doodling around with 14 on some hike -bike trails on my $100 flea-market MTB. He's still getting used to two wheels, so we're not going very fast; I was entertaining myself by practicing bunny-hops. I can do it just fine with SPDs, but never was able to get the hang of it on flat pedals.
until today; All of a sudden, both wheels were coming up whenever I wanted
I was bouncing around so much, I realized that my handlebar clamp wasn't as tight as it should have been

Having lived an apparently sheltered existence, I had to look up the slang version of ‘money shot’ and was quite surprised. Combine that with ‘gratifying’ and ‘euphoric’ and we are not talking bikes unless the OP has an unusual relationship with his.
