That's REALLY stoopid!

What's the most idiotic thing that someone has done to you, on purpose, while you are cycling?

Here's a kick off (NOT the the most stupid but the most recent):

This morning, cycling up a quiet suburban road I saw a couple of electricians uncoiling a thin electrical cable across the road. One on my side of the road and the other about 100m further up on the other side.

I said the the closest one "leave it (the cable) down" and he smiled at me and knodded.

Just as I was about to cross the cable he pulled it up to try and whip me off the bike. I managed to stop, wasn't going too fast, and clip out... JUST.

He stood grinning like an idiot, very please with himself. BIG JOKE!

#$%%^&#$*$#$%^&!!!!!!!!

Tried to think of a good way to revenge him but can't.

What a punk! A couple days ago I was riding up a hill by a popular surf beach in a bike lane. It's common for a long row of cars to park just off road, but leaving enough room for us cyclists to get through. Usually when I'm climbing, people coming back to their cars, stand real close to their door and wait for me to pass before opening. This guy comes back to his truck, tosses his board in the back, looks me in the eyes (while I'm huffing & puffing up this hill), goes to his door opens it up all the way, grabs his cell phone off the seat and starts chatting while leaning back against his door and watching me climb the hill. I'm thinking, he can see me, he sees me coming up the hill and is going to get into his truck and close the door before I get there. But no, he and his door are extending out even into the roadway (2 lanes), and I have check my 6, before going out into the left half of the lane to pass him. I wanted to hack a luge in his face as I passed, but I'm not as big a pr!ck as he is.

I was once shot at by some teenage kids with fireworks. It was kind of exciting.

Should of rolled into it slowly, fell down softly, then sued :)

Calling the cops and making a big fuss with his boss always works. I'm sure the boss will find it really funny too when he gets a notice that charges were filled against one of his employees.

I was going have a go at him but but getting into an altercation with someone when you're wearing cleats is not wise. He had the name of the company he works on his overalls so I gave him my angriest stare at said I'd call his boss. He stopped grinning.

I fer sure would call his boss. Then see how much he grins in the bosses office.

Sounds to me like you were making a joke indicating that he should leave the people without electricity, and he took it as a joke about not clotheslining you, so he played along. I doubt his intention was to hurt you, but in is ignorance he almost did. I think he was expecting you to expect it. Doesn't excuse it, but I think there was some serious humor miscommunication here.

They weren't repairing a broken line. They were reeling a temporary hook up from a power box on one side of the road to a construction site on the other. When I was getting close the cable was about a foot off the ground, he let it fall to the ground as I got closer to it. It was then I said "leave it down" and he knodded in agreement.

When I was about a foot away from the cable he pulled it taught...

..he knew exactly what he was doing.

The boss would really get a kick out of being served with the court documents about the pending civil suit.

Litespeed 07-29-05 08:07 AM

Almost exactly the same thing happened to me. The guy looks me straight in the face as I'm approaching and then when I'm about 3 feet away, he picks up the line. I slam on my brakes and glare at him. He gives me this stupid look like "I didn't know I wasn't suppose to pick it up". What are people thinking -- a lot of times they aren't!!!!

Ditto. What he did constitutes assault in many states. If the cable touched you at all, it's both an assault and a battery.

Haha... good one.

Totoro 07-29-05 10:42 AM

I would have had the police have a little chat with him. Ever heard of attempted assault?

Anyway velomancer, what is the name of the company? Find out where his HQ is and walk right in, sit down with the boss and tell him what his employee did and when the guy walks in and sees you in his bosses office, we'll see whos the one grinning :D

Maybe the "father" had a mental fart and couldn't remember the normal response: "Gimme dat bike".

samp02 07-30-05 04:06 PM

I would have called the cops...what a LOSER

Yoshi 07-30-05 05:03 PM

Fake a nasty crash and claim you can't get up. They'll have to call an ambulance, there will be lots of questions, etc.

Puppypaws 07-30-05 07:23 PM

My suggestion for revenge....

If it were possible to determine where the power switch was for the above mentioned power line, one could give the gentleman holding the line a lesson in aversive training.
