I'm not following you. Should we try the cheap cassette, or are we too cheap?

It's simple, really. Apparently, the cheap price of $9 dollars is too expensive for some people.

I guess my time is worth more than yours, as I wouldn't waste it in a (probably futile) effort to save so little money. But you should try it and report back to us.

You are being robbed at that price. I would wait until it goes on sale. Black Friday is coming and you might get it for half off!

So then he'd only be overpaying by $4.50.

As you may have noticed (well, apparently not), I'm not the one looking for a new cassette.

Since you say you're not picking on me -
I've been burned twice this month buying made in China/sold by Chinese distributor stuff. With the first, the item had a picture which showed 2 items and the description said 2 items. What I got was not 2 of the items, but one of the items and a little trinket. The description of the item was also inaccurate making false claims about the features. I was able to get my money back, but it still involved a bit of my time and some annoyance on my part.
The second was for a too good to be true price and the item never showed up. I was able to get my money back on that also, but it took a lot of patience and persistence to get my refund.

I also own some made in China stuff that were killer deals that I'm very happy with. It's been my experience that if the description has errors and makes inconsistent claims and pictures don't match you're likely going to be dissapointed.

Strangely enough, I recently bought a couple of things from Aliexpress for unbelievably low prices that I'm extremely happy with. I'm not completely against buying made in China stuff, but when the pictures don't match the description...

At least it's not a counterfeit. You know what you're getting.

I only asked because it sounds too good to be true, but I have purchased lots of Chinese made items in bulk and have been very satisfied with them, especially when fixing neighborhood kids bikes and not charging them for the parts or my time. I like to keep a stock of consumables on hand and since I have several bikes with 11spd cassettes, I was curious if anyone had 'real' input on these. There are quite a few Chinese sellers offering them, so they probably are 11 spd if (big if) you get all the parts that should come with one. And if they're made of soft pig iron they'll wear out before the chain and I can just keep replacing them instead of the more expensive chains haha. I haven't found cheap chains lately. Thanks for all the replies. Fredo76 told me what I needed to know.

you know the old saying, “If it seems too good to be true - it probably - buy it now and regret it later”, or something like that.

Sounds like you are hoping for a flame war with the prejudice comment. Sorry to disappoint you, but I am going to rely on common sense, keeping in mind that Internet scams are not something rare. For me, it has nothing to do with where it's coming from and/or the fact that it's not a brand name. It's the fact the description and photos don't match, along with other things (e.g., It's a freewheel, we mean a cassette). You would think that a reputable seller would know more about a product than is exhibited in the listing and that it would include photos of the product as described. The listing has "FOOLS" written all over it.

I want to recommend a book to you. It's called "Blink: The Art of Thinking Without Thinking" by Malcolm Gladwell.

I can just see the thread waiting in the wings: "I bought this component. The listing said 11 speed, but I got an 8 speed, which is what was pictured. Did I get scammed?"

"I'd" is a contraction of "I would." Meaning that if I needed or wanted one, for $9 bucks, "I would" buy one just out of curiosity. And since I use neither an 8 nor an 11-speed cassette, it's highly unlikely I will ever need or want to buy one.

The only way I would consider running it is if they paid me to do so and didn't have any rules about riding it more than once. I would take that cassette around the block for $500 and if they wanted a further ride just add another $500 for each additional block.

Yeah, that's what I want to do, spend a lot of time having to replace my cassette/freewheel because the chain wore off the teeth. Maybe you should carry an extra one or two along with you on your bike so you can change it on the side of the road after it fails...

No, all the teeth on all the cogs line up perfectly. None of the cogs on my cassettes line up like that, nor are they supposed to.

If it takes you a lot of time to replace your cassette or freewheel, then it would probably be worth it to have a professional do the job.
