New Years Cycling Resolutions?

More miles?
First century or Grand Fondo?
More altitude?
More scenic rides?
More lunch stops?
Riding with friends?
First race or more races?
New bike?
New kit?
??

New Year resolutions never work out as planned, so i don't make any.

Survive 2023 - everything else will be an extra!

I'm not one for resolutions. But I hope to retire during the year, so I certainly plan on getting more miles in.

bblair 12-28-22 08:00 AM

Ride more miles.
Take more pictures.
Stop and read those historical markers.

Resolutions? No
Goals and measurable objectives: Yes.

I have never completed an unsupported 10K of ascent ride so that would be a first and show increased fitness.

Co-Vid, RSV and the adenovirus really derailed 2022 for me.

This.

I blew my goals for this year, didn't even come close. Missed the mileage by a long shot, didn't even get near a couple rides I wanted to do. So those goals are perfectly good for next year!

better fitting & weather tolerant attire (to my perception) is my resolution. In past years, I just "dealt" with it & now I am to a point where it's lowering the fun factor with cycling when the sleeves are capri in length & the "thermal" claims only raises the blood pressure from frustration.

Carry over from 2022's resolution failure. Ride up both Mount Evans and Pikes Peak. I didn't make it out to Colorado as much in 2022 as I'd hoped too.

I did Mt. Evans in 2021. The views are amazing so I want to do that one again for certain.

Not really a resolution, but I do plan to do another century in 2023.

freeranger 12-28-22 09:40 AM

Hoping to ride more miles, climb more hills. Shouldn't be hard to do as I was off the bike with a. broken wrist (not bike related) for 5 months of this 2022 year! Gonna try some trail riding also-mild, at least to start with-to see how it holds up.

livedarklions 12-28-22 09:55 AM

I'm resolving not to get intimate with any of my bikes.

ofajen 12-28-22 10:03 AM

No resolution, but I’m in new territory now that my main exercise each week is running. I envision alternating running and cycling days during nicer weather. In cold weather, I’m alternating the running mainly with the elliptical.

However, I’m developing a taste for exercising on my feet, not sitting, so I expect this year may bring some “stand up bike” experiments on at least one bike: higher, different bar and grip position plus a switch to more standing-friendly crank arms of about 150mm or so.

So am I, but my road bike is super hot, so it might be tough.

indyfabz 12-28-22 11:01 AM

Take a four or five day tour to Cape Henlopen State Park over Easter weekend. I’ve already booked a campsite.

Go back to Montana for a two-week tour. Haven’t been back there since 2019.

mstateglfr 12-28-22 11:07 AM

Rode 4 centuries this year- want to ride 6 next year. Gonna help a girl train for a .5IM and full IM, so that shouldnt be an issue.
Ride a few days of RAGBRAI with my daughters. I am really hoping its a central route this year for the 50th Anniversary since that will make transport more convenient).
Do 5 gravel races. I am signed up for 2 already and it should be easy to figure out 3 more where I have time open.

Same resolution every year. Same goals too. Ride my bike. Full stop.

rsbob 12-28-22 05:34 PM

OK people, New Years Goals are what is inferred from New Years Resolution. I could have equally called the thread, Goals for the New Year, but the aim was the same.

Resolution: A course of action determined or decided

Goal: The object toward which an endeavor is directed

Picky picky :D

I resolve to not take on any more projects from facebook friends or people from church. I will continue to fix my grandkids' bikes for free though.

rumrunn6 12-29-22 12:33 PM

less belly, more quads

SpeedyBlueBiker 12-29-22 08:19 PM

Nothing that big really. Plan to ride more miles and also more running.

rsbob 12-29-22 09:10 PM

Increase annual mileage by 500 miles.

fooferdoggie 12-29-22 09:51 PM

I ride as much as my body ands weather allow. it would be nice to beat my 255 miles in one week or hit 1000 miles in a month or over 9000 miles in a year.

downtube42 12-29-22 11:06 PM

It's a PBP year, so there's that. I'd like to find myself at the start line in the best shape ever, which at 62 isn't getting easier.

So let's say drop 35 pounds and add 35 watts as a goal. By August. The watts will be the easy part.

I've heard two schools of thought on speaking your big audacious goals. One is that by communicating goals to your social group, you encourage them to hold you accountable. The other is that just by communicating the goals you get some good feelings that can actually substitute for the real thing. I suppose there's truth in both.
