Two reasons, inflation thanks due to the financial policies of the last 4 administrations; and due to the fact that cycling products have been going up in price because it's a sport for people with extra money they have nothing else to spend it on, known as discretionary income.

Take note of the zero setback seatpost, and the saddle slammed as far forward as it can go.

Not sure what's going on there.

Short stature, short arms, preferred riding position... do you really need an explanation?

Leave it to an engineer to miss the blatantly obvious. It's all about increasing cargo capacity. Granted an engineer could probably come up with a better solution to the problem.

What your limited experience makes you think makes up most, is very limited. I have never bought anything from Amazon and doubt I ever will. I’ve bought some things on the internet but I refuse to help that Bezos guy add any money to his hoard.

To accommodate more cargo? Okay, I didn't think of that.

Forward slammed saddle usually suggests the bike is too big for the rider.

You can’t add more than 40% to the money supply (as America did during the pandemic) and not expect prices to go up. And you cannot disrupt business and supply chain operations and not expect shortages, resulting in prices going up even more.

Thankfully, I am in Japan, which spent far less on relief than America, and which did not forcibly disrupt business and supply chain systems. Inflation in Japan has averaged around 2% since 2020, and there were no shortages or empty shelves. A water bottle today costs a little less than it did when I came to Japan some 15 years ago.

I can’t give the Japanese government too much credit for what they did or didn’t do, they didn’t have many options. Japan’s American-written constitution prevents Japan’s government from closing businesses or locking down people short of military law. That meant no official mandates whatsoever applied to Japanese residents. And as Japan is already shouldering significant public debt, there was no option to spend vast amounts on pandemic relief. Such spending would have been pointless anyway, as long term inflation would have more than negated any short term benefit.

Japan suffered from double-digit inflation in the early 70’s. The solved the problem with what was later called “austerity” in Europe. The BOJ froze the money supply, and public sector spending reined in. Eventually the private sector recovered and began generating value, but this took about 5 years.

Japan was pretty expensive pre-COVID, however. Pretty good chance the OP was in Germany which enjoyed a little double-digit inflation as of late, but seems to enjoy cheap water bottles still. But all-in-all your post probably belongs in P&R

Correct. And at any given day the number of people with Prime is a much lower number because they are counting 1 week trials toward yearly totals.

Prove it.

I’ve provided a source. You’ve provided nothing but a claim.

The article says exactly what I'm saying - that the number of subscribers at any one time is unknown and that there are short subscriptions. The only thing to debate is how great a number "much" is.

It's irrelevant how many subscribers there are at any given time. If your household has Amazon Prime, buy some bottles. If your household doesn't have Amazon Prime, get the free one week trial and use it to buy some bottles. Same result.

Or you can buy $25 worth of qualifying merchandise to earn free shipping at Amazon today!

But that isn't going to help if you lose a bottle and need a quick replacement from a bike shop. It will likely be over $10.

You could make up for that loss by buying your chains and tires in bulk, or rebuilding your Di2 batteries with new lithium cells. But all those things aren't very convenient. Grabbing a cheap bottle via free shipping also isn't very convenient.

I could get bottles from Amazon for under $10 with next day free delivery. If that's not quick enough, I could walk into REI and buy a bottle for $7. The first LBS I checked also has them for $7, and the second has them for $8. With another 15-20 LBS within a 15 mile radius, there are likely several others that sell bottles for under $10.
