I just spent the last 5 days in Lincoln, I can confirm the weather was poor and facilitated dumb topics like this

A Ford Explorer would be a low/mid price gravel bike. A Macan is like the low end of the Colnago lineup.

Why do you care about this? Are you actually considering purchasing either of these bikes or just looking to set off another troll thread?

I think smd4's post wins this thread, in the face of terrific competition.

Again, the analogy doesn't work because the Macan isn't Porsche's "high end bike." In fact, the Macan is Porsche's lowest priced model so, if anything, the real analogy would be "low end bikes supporting the high end bikes of the same manufacturer."

I could give you an itemized parts list with receipts if you are interested.
But, for now:
$800 in spokes that are so light the float on water mated to $1300 rims and $600 hubs. (Both lighter & significantly cheaper than Enve's & DT Swiss' offerings)
$350 seat post
$250 saddle
$70 seat post clamp
$100 skewers
$200 stem
$400 handle bar
$130 headset
$130 chainrings
$250 cassette
$80 chain
$2500 crankset (with power meter)
$180 bottom bracket
$3700 frame
$700 fork
$350 brake rotors
$225 water bottle cages
$100 ti-bolts
Used/free XTR 9000 hydraulic brakes
Used/free pedals
Used/free tires
Aican shift cables & segmented housing
Did I forget anything?
Oh, yeah, the groupset!
Dura-Ace 9100 hydro-mechanical shifters on clearance $250 & matching derailleurs.
As a rough calculation the total comes to ~$13,095-ish plus the tax and shipping & import duties for a bunch of items I don't exactly remember with out digging up the receipts.
Definitely approaching $14,000
As ridden:

If anyone can come up with a STEEL disc brake tubeless bike in size 58cm that weighs less & costs less I'd be interested in how it was done.

1946 grams. I'm easily at a ~1200 gram disadvantage over a respectable carbon frame of most any variety & I know that.
Steel rides nice though.

Sure, but not really relevant in the analogy:

I'm doubtful that $14k bikes are a majority contributor to Spec's bottom line. The profit per unit might be the highest, but I my wild-@$$ guess is that bikes in the sub-$5k range (maybe even sub-$2k) are the foundation. If that's the case, the Macan analogy fits better.

We sometimes spend $100,000 putting people back together in repair shops we call hospitals and those people have a net value of what? $30?

Clearly, we need to cease this worthless practice. The economics just don't make sense.

Unfortunately, that screen shot truncated the thread titles:
Actual cost to build a $14,000 bike ... on my planet.
So much resistance to change ... is my life philosophy.
The most underrated thing about bents and trikes ... is you're close to the ground when you fall over.
Is it really a conundrum ... why I annoy so many people?
When will they ever learn ... not to fall for my troll threads?
So what will be the "newest" thing in gearing ... derailleurs?
Time to diversify ... I'm going to troll a new sub forum.
It just doesn't make any sense ... how can everyone else on the planet disagree with me?
Bike mileage ... and why people who don't ride bents are stupid.
A couple of things I don't understand ... about getting along with other people.
Tubes losing air tip ... like me, fill them with hot air.
You know you are slowing down ... when I catch up with you.
A little good news ... my internet service is being disconnected tomorrow.
Be nice ... or you'll end up like me.

Though, by his apparent definition of Specialized as "Middleman", it might be a great reason for Direct To Consumer sales of raw materials.
