yeah, obviously an inexpensive entry level road bike. I hope to find someone local who will be interested in it. Better than the crusher. I see them on eBay for several hundred, and some seem to strip to the frame and rebuild.

Well let's not be so nice to it. It is a RBSO (a Road Bicycle Shaped Object) and it is true people have done some silly things to them but calling it an entry level road bike is a huge stretch. It could potentially be melted and turned into cans for delicious canned beverages though either alcoholic or not.

The klein would make a nice road bike.The funk seems a disc brake mountain bike either for 11speed or 12 speed set up. Don't know the quality of the tubing though.

Where are you getting these "dump" finds, I have a tough time believe some of this is just being dumped and so often unless there is a frame issue.

really, at the town dump. on the metal pile. lots of kids stuff shows up, and low end bikes (see above GMC). some gems.

i don't know much about the enormous historic variety of names and parts, so i like to post here to get real people info (i can do regular research too, but i like sharing and the info here is live). i don't want to have a bike junk pile, so whatever doesn't pass muster can go back. the good stuff will be held onto, possibly listed somewhere to help pay for other stuff.

also just grabbed these three forks. again, know nothing. throw it out there and get feedback.

The blue fork is a threaded model belonging to a custom race bike, headset must be a stronglight. The RCT carbon,fork must belong to race bike or a touring bike due to eyelets on its. Pretty sure that the Redline fork is belonging to an older MTB from the 90's

the XTR shifter is a sign that this bike was a high end mtb , same with the race face next and carbon disk brakes. But you will need to have the headset properly fitted ad well as find a proper stem, and the final question is whethre bike was a 27.5 o 29 inch wheeled MTB. If you have the reference of the shimano, you can easily whether it was a 10 or 11 or 12 speed bike. I wonder kind of aluminium the bike is made of.

Funk cycles, Colorado. claim titanium frames. that might make this throw away even crazier. i'm gonna have to contact them. i think these frames and forks were in the metal pile for a least a week.

You can restore the klein by putting back its original fork and equipping it with duraace or ultegra 9 or 10 speed componentry, good tires and good wheels. It is a very high end frame.

I think this moutain bike was built before they started to build titanium frames (I bet it is either made of kinesis or easton aluminium) , if you have the serial number, you can send them and email alongwith the photos and ask them what was the date of the frame build and the original equipment such as seat post, stem, wheels, cassette, saddle and pedals, then based on that you will be able to make your own version and/or restore to what it was.

So what are you doing with all of these bikes and bike parts you find? I can't imagine myself scavenging the dump for bikes and bike parts.

Wouldn't it be better to have 2 or 3 nice modern bikes instead of 50 old bikes and a bunch of parts that are not worth much?

That would make sense for most of us but the riding may not be the primary attraction for some. Generally hoarders are happy with quantity over quality or functionality.
