Hello All,
I'm heading out to St. Augustine, FL this weekend. I'll be staying on the beach (woohoo). Of course, I'm taking my Trek 7500 FX hybrid. Does anyone know some good routes? I mostly stick to the streets, but if there are some trails with hard packed dirt, I might be able to take them on (I still have the stock slick tires). Also, any cool LBS in case I get into trouble?
Thanks...

Man, I thought this thread was going to have something to do with philosophy and cycling or something:p. Just kidding, wish I could help you but I don't know Florida. I do hope you have a great time though.

You can look up if any close trails here.

You can ride up A1A over the bridge toward Ponte Vedra; I ride from Ponte Vedra at Mickler's Landing toward St. Augustine with my tri club once in a while when we do swim/ride/run sessions there. St. Augustine down-town is fairly congested but there are lots of back county roads to the west.

I was thinking st. augustine grass, man that stuff is the best to lie on, wrestle with your siblings on, wait for the bus sitting in, crash your bike in, etc.

Oldest city in the USA. Enjoy.

Thanks all for the feedback. This will be my second trip to St. Augustine and the first with my bike. I live in Tampa, but there's nothing like the Atlantic coast for the beach experience. I'm usually ambivalent about the family vacation. I feel like I should be working on my house. However, I've been busting my butt this summer and I'm ready for a break!

Not sure about St. Augustine, but slightly farther south there is a killer route from Flagler Beach. It goes from High Bridge, through the woods, past Tomoka State park, and comes out by the bridge to Ormond beach.

Haven't been there in years, but I would think a ride in the country out 16 toward Mill Creek would be nice. It'll take you all the way to the river. You could even cut over to 95 on old 9 mile road to the Golf mecca of the Eastern seaboard. I agree with Kendall, the traffic has gotten exponentially worse over the past 20 or so years. Have a good time and visit the alligator farm. And eat at Cap's -- it's north of Vilano Beach.
