D12 FD auto trim not working?

Hi all,

Yesterday my Di2 Dura Ace 9100 Front derailleur auto trim stopped working?

It shifts perfectly fine from small to big ring and vice versa, but does not do the automatic micro adjustment and therefore I'm getting chain rub when in the largest and smallest cogs of cassette.

Battery is fully charged.

Also the small manual trim via the small lever isn't working either. Assume this is connected to the auto rtim issue though.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Simon

That's a strange one! How is the battery in the R shifter?

Thanks for your reply BTinNYC.

Rear shifter/shifting is also perfectly fine.

Certainly this bike with 12 speed Di2 should be new enough that the bike shop will still be more than willing to check it out for you. Maybe even for free.

If it were a 3 year old bike, I might go to more lengths to solve on my own.

Welcome to BF.

Crap, the mistake in the title had me thinking this was new 12 speed Di2. Coming back later I see the OP said 9100 series. So if I didn't make another mistake, that's 11 speed.

Still if the bike is less than 2 years old, take it back to the shop. And I haven't met a bike mechanic in a shop yet that would not talk my head off about what does what and how to fix it when I go in and just ask simple questions to start a conversation.

Have you tried the manual trim using the app?

Simon B 11-01-23 09:11 AM

Just to be clear Dura Ace R9100 is not the latest 12 speed with wireless shifters. Rather 11 speed, with cables to shifters. (so more than a few years old)

I have tried fine-tuning FD in 'manual' adjustment mode. The micro adjustment works for this. The 'top/big ring' position is at the furthest possible position outwards.

Thanks,
Simon

Thanks Iride01.

Sorry about the confusion. Didn't notice my typo in the title, so understand why you'd by confused!

I actually bought the Di2 groupset online as an upgrade and installed myself. Was all working fine for over 18 months.

I've now managed to fine tune the FD so it's no longer chain rubbing. Would be nice to have the auto trim still working though.

Thanks, did not know that. Have edited the post.

If not current, I'd flash the firmware.

It can be done with the SM-BCR2 charger, but you will need an older version of the E-Tube software.
The latest version of E-Tube requires SM-PCE02 interface (it's an interface only, it does not charge)

Alternatively you can use the 11speed Bluetooth add-on. I done this several times without issue, BUT it is susceptible to interference and "can" brick your bike.
If bricked it can be recovered using the interface.

Yeah.. E-Tube Project V4 can re-flash the firmware and will work with the SM-BCR2 charger. V3.4.5 can also update firmware:).

(if ETP V4 complains that the SM-BCR2 firmware is 'old', run ETP 3.4.5 and it'll update the BCR2 firmware for you)

FD-R9150 should trim, yeah... Did it stop trimming before or after you changed the limit settings?

I think I would also reset all limits and set them up from scratch, and see what that does.
