longer fender stays?
I just ordered some fenders from Planet Bike and the stays aren't long enough to mount them! Where can I get longer fender stays? They are just thick stainless steel wire with bent loops at one end.

Two options that I have tried:
1. Buy wire and bend your own
2. Make a "stay extender" from a flat piece of metal with a couple holes in it.
Bolt one hole to the frame and one hole to the stay.
#2 Worked great on my winter fixed.
Enjoy

I have the same problem with my Zefal cab fenders (700 x 35). I got the fenders from Nashbar and I really don't want to return them (due to the cost of shipping such a large box) and I really don't want to try some MacGyver solution (I'm not that mechanically inclined).
Would a LBS sell fender stays?

If you get some "P" clips at the bike shop you can mount the stays to the bike anywhere you like. On the fork or the seat stays anywhere. Not way down at the axle, up where the stays reach.
No need for longer stays or extenders in almost all cases.
You can get the same clamps on line, try googling them.
