I get it, and that is why I did not click the purchase button. But somewhere inside I was hoping it was real. That's the reason I was asking the community if anyone went as far as hitting the purchase button and could share their experience.

I expected you got it.

(Still, if the address, or anything, is wrong, you don't really need to ask the community.)

All retailers are charging the same markups, even the company stores. They might be able to move losses between the main company and the store more easily, but it costs the same to run a store. No matter who you are.

Trek thinks they can make money in our town by starting a new store, I expect they will fail. Their only hope is that one of the three stores in town sold out to Spesh, so all the life is being sucked out of it as I type. Trek picked a storefront next to walmart. It's pretty amusing to look at the store listing on the Trek site right now. Closed every day. No mention that it hasn't opened yet. I was trying to figure out when that would happen.

Trek isn't in it for the money in some of these stores, they do have quite a few stores that are not doing well. But it is the recognition and takeover so all people see is Trek, if you don't have any other options they will flock to you. In Trek's case they use well performing stores in nearby markets to prop up the poorly performing stores. It is dumb but it gets the name out and can and sometimes does drive out the local shops.

They are kind of the bicycle company equivalent of a certain bit actor in one of the Home Alone movies who happens to like to put their name on things.

The great thing about Darwinism is that you only need to be fit enough to reproduce. The crowd that makes fun of the earlier dyers doesn't understand the theory, you saw this a lot during Covid with the people making fun of anti vaxxers/anti maskers
