Chain Waxing is Sublime

But it concerns me that it is less prevalent amongst mountain bikers.

Opine.

And they are so smooth and bristle-free when you take them to bed.

I don't and my chains are the natural dark down there.

It concerns me that you're concerned about it.

Raining so hard that the I like disc brakes thread has lost your attention?

Why? Too much river crossings?

Funny true story ( long before chain waxing threads). Post head injury. After my last race ever and the start of re-joining the real world. I visited a dear friend to spend a week collecting myself for the challenges ahead. (She was the one who told me just how hard the next half decade of my life was going to be 3 months after the crash.)

So, in bed that first night, her early '70s rebel and unshaved legs and my mine, one week after my last race. We both found it pretty funny!

Many a poet waxes sublime.

They care not of bikers of the mountains.

Polaris OBark 02-14-24 09:48 PM

Many a road bike racer waxes haematopoietically.

Definition of haematopoietical: The production of blood cells by the blood-forming organs.

Very clever. Pass the EPO.

Sublime don't practice Santaria. Not sure if they practice MTB.

I ride bikes of many flavors - road, gravel, and MTB. All of them get the same treatment. Wax on. Wax off. Repeat.

which Sublime? Sublime, Sublime with Rome, or Sublime with the son (which is good because Rome did not do "caress me down")

Polaris OBark 02-15-24 10:05 AM

Sublime as solid vaporizing directly to the gas phase (eg: dry ice/CO_2 )

Not all of us worship our chains. So we are okay if they look a little filthy. And though I think my non-waxed gunky chains last just as long any waxed chain, I'm happy to replace them when needed.

The real (non-hyperbole) reason I am asking is that I just got a new mountain bike with a12-speed GX Eagle transmission drive train, and I want it to last a long time. Waxing my chain on my gravel bike has greatly extended my cassette (and chains) lifetime. Given the price-tag of this SRAM stuff, and how I already heard and felt grinding after my first couple of rides, I decided to try wax on this one too. It got me wondering why this hasn't caught on with mountain bikers so much. Is it just because the drivetrain gets wet or muddy more easily, or is it bad for 12-speed drivetrains, or is it just custom?
