Metal/Sintered AND Resin/Organic
Those of you running Metal/Sintered brake pads on one wheel AND Resin/Organic brake pads on the other wheel, which brake pad type are you running on what wheel and why?

I run metal/sintered brake pads on the left side, and resin/organic pads on the right side. When the bicycle is rolling forward, the angular momentum vectors point toward the left side, so I find the left pads benefit from a longer-wearing material. Also, I am deaf in my left ear, so the added noise doesn't bother me.

I recently put new pads in my rain bike -- metal pads for the front and resin for the rear. Metal tends to be stronger and fades less, but is louder with a tendency to squeal when wet. Organic is fine for the rear as I don't want to grab too much rear brake and lose traction.
I tried it out today and ironically the front was silent and the rear was a bit noisy. Albeit this was in dry conditions. |

I thought I had just made it up, and the totally BS justification would have made that clear. (Sorry.) Have a friend put them in and tell him/her/them/whatever not to tell you whether the metal pads are in the front or back. I am willing to bet you won't know the difference until you look. |

But seriously, there is no reason to be mixing pad types. Sintered pads are harder wearing and more heat resistant (less fade). Organic pads are quieter with better feel/modulation. So I use organic pads for everything except a trip to the big mountains, where sintered pads are a better option for long technical descents. |

Good for you, but I have had to change from using single to dual compound pads for my tandem because single Kool Stop salmon compound squealed like a mofo on the front. And it still stops like ass compared to with disc brakes.
