Upgrading From FX4
I need some recommendations for upgrading from an FX4 to a drop bar for my 13-year-old daughter. The FX4 is a carbon and speed-focused flat bar fitness bike, She's looking towards making some gains and learning to ride a drop bar with the new bike.
I was looking at some aluminum-framed Liv bikes which appear suitable for safely leaning drop bars but I am not convinced the weight and groupsets will allow the gains. |
FX4 is already quite a bike for a teenager. If you’re set on drop bars, why not a checkpoint - isn’t that what you just upgraded to? Or maybe a Madone if you want her to be faster than you.

In the Liv lineup Avail Advanced with 105 would be the most comparable in component level. Move up from there if you are looking for bike related "gains."

Thanks. Looking to not break the bank in case it’s a fad but no point buying a lower tier drop and not have her see gains. That bike looks about right

At minimum you’ll need to replace bars, levers, brake hoses, bar tape, and derailleur cable and housing. Add clipless pedals and possibly a different saddle. Price those items out and see if it fits your budget. Oh, if you’re wanting 2x, add front mech. No one going to do the math for you.
