Since there were less votes for the 1x drivetrain, what would it take for some people to be interested? Like an 11-46T cassette with 42T crankset, is that enough? That would give from 24.8 to 103.7 gear inches.

But seriously, I believe interest has waned due to your 'unrealized implications'. You didn't set up the original question to cover various things you brought up later and insisted were implied. This--> 'If you wanted a winter or rain bike (not expensive), which drivetrain would you choose' <--Is vague at best. Good job on the listing of various set-ups though! |
OK, I got 30 votes on my poll. And this shows a lot to me. First, the appeal of 3x drivetrains is greater than I thought. Second, despite many people on the Internet talking about 1x drivetrains, it appears not as many people as I thought are interested. And third, it looks like the 2x drivetrain has the greatest interest.
My other observation I can make is I think if people want to use a cassette that goes from 11 to 28, 30 or 32T, it could be done with a 3x drivetrain*. Otherwise, a 2x drivetrain can be used with a cassette going to 34, 36 or 38T. Then a 1x drivetrain can be used with cassettes 40T or above. At least now with this we can start to establish standards in the industry. *Examples would be 44/32/22 with an 11-28T cassette or 46/34/24 with an 11-30T cassette (and as I said earlier 48/36/26 with 11-32T). Other interesting combos would be 48/32 with 11-38T and the 42T with 11-46T. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...deb65c8733.png |

Too small numbers to determine anything, especially as many people would have voted for non of the above had there been an options. basically failed poll
