Does it really matter?
I've been doing 6-8hr rides on the weekends, and by the time Monday came, I was feeling it on my 45km round-trip commute to work. I invested in a pair of Assos Mille GTO C2 Summer at around $450 CAD taxes in, They worked well at alleviating the pain, so I decided to get a second pair. After reading reviews on Amazon, I decided to give the Chinese a shot and bought a $60 CAD pair. I could now blindly grab either one, and by hr 3 or 4, I wouldn't know which I was wearing. The initial feel is no doubt more comfortable on the Assos, but that quickly fades.

I don’t think you’ve ever gone 6 to 8 hours without posting on bf… So how are you doing these long rides? Are you stopping on the roadside periodically to update us?

I do find a difference between Voler and say aerotech which I used to like also (which is good for larger sizes) I got a pair of Assos on sale and was not impressed Get what works for you, but I find the less younger I get the more I find buying quality (that works for you) pays |
Brand name vs. Amazon/Temu/Alibaba has been done to death. You need new material.
|
Eventually you’ll have thrown enough money at the hobby to have it all figured out I’m sure.
To answer your question - no, it literally matters to no one in the world what shorts you feel like wearing. |
Possibly.
All my RockBros gear has been excellent, at a fraction of the price and is 100% Chinese. I ordered a Castelli Espresso at 30% discount for one more comparison. |

130km to 180km max on the longest. Not trying to reach any distance goals. Just exploring cottage lake roads

It's well known that the pads in those Chinese shorts are treated with fentanyl, which numbs your buttocks so that you don't notice any discomfort when you ride. It also causes the rider to lose track of time, so they often think the've been riding for many hours, when it was really only 15 minutes.
I find that rides are more pleasant if the updates are done pre-ride |

Doesn’t the first purchase make you feel rather foolish?
. |
So far, yes. The Swiss suckered me.
that could change long term I suppose. The point of the thread was, if you have the China bibs, do the China bibs last. |

I didn’t see a question is the thread title or the post, but I agree with your “answer”.
/thread Come to think of it, this thread title could also serve as the first and last response to every thread started by the OP. |

Fair enough, I read the thread title as a question with a forgotten question mark - perhaps forgotten due to exhaustion brought about by analysis paralysis.

The question is implicit in the thread title and first post.
I misjudged the cognitive ability of the unwashed. Me bad. I will see how the Italian Castelli Espresso go; if similar to Amazon, I’m on team China. |

PS: you forgot to also edit your first post, which still lacks any question. And even if there was a question, why would anyone offer a serious answer? You constantly pretend to ask for advice and then argue with anyone who doesn't agree with your preconceived notions. |
Shorts have to work. For you, the rider. The dollars spent doesn't matter (unless you are spending so much you cannot have enough pairs to always have a clean pair to ride - an issue back in the day when the good shorts were wool and very slow drying).
I've struggled with shorts for years. Most of my issues have been about finding shorts that keep things where they belong, probably mostly a result of me being issued a less than standard body type. About a dozen years ago I discovered the Segoi shorts. Hurray! Comfort like I have never known before. Many rides I never have to "adjust" things. Even with many stands for hills and sit downs after. When I was young many years ago, that wasn't a huge issue except on very warm days but as I got older the shorts had to get progressively better. Didn't happen until I bought those Segois. Maybe, just maybe, I could spend twice what I spend on the Segois and get a rideable short. But more likely they'll be just another cold weather pair where I am so shrunk up that anything works. |
I ponder when this will all come to a fiery end?
