7th is default

I mapped my gear ratio using speed and a given cadence and found 7th to be the sweet spot.

so you gonna convert that to a beer run curve

Fascinating. Thanks for ‘sharing’ this utterly contextless and useless observation.

Can you imagine such an existence?

Sad

But this is why we open his threads, isn't it? It's the same reason why people watch reality TV -- to affirm their own normalcy.

I guess I DO watch Cops to remind myself that my life could be a whole lot worse.

”That’s not mine!”

It’s like slowing to look at an accident scene. You know you shouldn’t but can’t help yourself.

“7th is default.”
“7th is default.”
“7th is default.”
“7th is default.”

It's a Russian numbers station.

De fault is not in our stars, dear readers, but in ourselves.

"Seven minute abs"...

MikeDeason 10-01-25 06:32 AM

Eventually, I plan on plotting 7th against 5th and 6th over a 1000km distance. 7th is clearly my default based on current calculations.

You are riding wrong then, if 7th is your sweet spot.
Do better. Ride better.

I like the rebranding of troll to “community influencer”.

Oh, he's influential all right, but not in any kind of meaningful or positive way.

You built yourself a velodrome, did ya? Cause otherwise your "plot" is nonsense....

MikeDeason 10-01-25 07:11 AM

I will only be plotting when doing my least hilly route.

Why are you telling people this? 7th being your default is totally meaningless because we dont even know what gear ratio that is.
Even if we knew what gear ratio that is, I still dont know why you think this should be shared with the forum. Literally nobody cares so far that 7th is your default.
Its not like that is objectively good or bad, so what productive conversation are you even hoping for here?

Have you not heard of the vocal minority?

I was posting to see if there is a better way, without spending $$$, to calculate default gear.

No one knows why you start meaningless threads, but it is clear to everyone that it is not because you seek information or advice.

Since when have $$$ been a concern of yours? And, where in your o.p. is any shred of a question? Relax, it's a rhetorical question ...

what is the goal of identifying a “default gear” - is your plan to ditch all those pesky sprockets that you don’t need?

No, you werent doing that. You never asked that question. You firmly stated you have a default gear, and then reaffirmed that is your default gear a few posts later.
At no point did you make any attempt to 'see if there is a better way' to do anything.

And its totally cool that you didnt attempt to seek out opinions because this isnt something that you need opinions for. You do you and decide what your 'default' gear is on your own.

Related note- I dont even know what a 'default' gear is. Is that like what I naturally ride on flat road?...if so, saying 7th cog is worthless. The size of the cog and the size of the chainring matter.
