I'm such a Boy Scout
I mean I'm out on the Greenway yesterday, pedalling for all I'm worth on my single speed, like I'm in a time trail, when I come up on the damsel in distress. She's walking her Trek 2200 due to a flat. So, I stop and assist her, she's got a larger tire 700/28, and I'm carrying a 700/23 tube. I figure for the five miles she's got to go it'll hold. So I get her up and running. She's so happy she says, "If I had a hundred bucks it would be your's." I blush, and say, "Just helping out." and I'm off. Well, about five minutes later I'm like banging my fist into my forehead, going, "Dude, you are such a dweb, you should of said something cool like 'I don't need a hundred bucks, I'll take dinner at Lucia's.' Or at least gotten her phone number."
So my question is: Does helping someone out open one to be hit on? And would dinner or a date biking, be fair compensation for aiding a distressed biker?

I would have traveled with her to make sure that under size tube made it. Never can tell what we might have talked about.

Look at it this way:
If you happen to see eachother on the Greenway in the future, she will think of you as
"that nice guy who fixed my tire and didn't hit on me at the first opportunity"

The first time she caught you screaming at homeless people sleeping in the underpasses she'd drop you like a leper with herpes.

For not getting her phone #. You know as a follow up to see if the tube worked ok.

Just don't be hunting for her out there. You might get a special order from the court system to stay 1000 ft away from the defendant.

Nothing wrong with asking someone out. Just be ok with whatever her answer is.

Give providence a chance. I think you should've ridden along with her for a while to make sure it was ok. Then you can at least get to know her a little and perhaps you wouldn't seem too forward if you asked for a number or a chance to meet again.

Umm, it is possible to be interested in the girl and not in getting laid. Call me old fashioned, but that's my take on it.

You did the right thing. A Boy Scout never takes a tip for a good turn. Never! You always get more out of the good trun than you put into doing it.
You should have ask her if she would like you to ride to the end of the trail.
Every encounter should not end up being a roll in the hay.

Well, if you ever see her again, you have the perfect lead in. How'd that tire hold up? Get you home ok? I wanted to ride the rest of the trail with you to make sure you were ok, but I didn't want you to think I was some kind of wacko (or whatever).
Take it from there and ask her for a bike date or some other date.

....see his post called Waking Sleeping Dogs.
Torments the homeless, but helps girls with expensive bikes. Hmmm.
Sounds like a winner.

I twisted that whole thing around to "No good deed goes unpunished".
Oh, and if we are putting the Boy Scout stats out there... third generation Eagle Scout. Lost count of the years.

I see what you mean. That is ridiculously mean spirited.
Boy Scout indeed.

Some Boy Scout. Torments homeless and ponders personal gain from a seemingly selfless act. Jerk. You don't deserve her, but you do deserve whatever retribution awaits you from those homeless people. Clean up your act, dude.
