sweat
sweat pours out of my helmet into my eyes and smears my glasses. my speed is compromised by endless brow mopping etc. is there some thing i can wear under my helmet that will wisk away moisture with out adding bulk? im afraid a simple head band or bandana will simply become saturated over a 50 mile 2hr 45min ride and i will just have added another layer of discomfort. what do others do about this problem? please advise.

I use a headband. It becomes saturated, but it still manages to keep the sweat out of my eyes.
I tried one of those skull cap things......didn't impress me a bit. I had just as much or more sweat in my eyes with that thing as when using nothing.

How's the ventilation on your helmet?

I used to have the sweat problem. I also buzzed my hair down to 1/16" so I apply sun block on my head. Man, when that gets in the eyes it stings like a bastage! I started using a bandana skullcap until I forgot it one day and a buddy gave me one of his extra headbands. Now I only use a headband. It seems to let the sweat evaporate easier, therefore my knoggin' feels cooler, and still keeps the sweat outta the eyes. I recommend a headband.

I had the same problems and picked up a Halo headband. Check on ebay, they go for around $10. It has a rubber strip that deflects the sweat from going into your eyes. I used it this past weekend and it actually worked.

I also have the Halo headband. So far it works fairly well, but it does get saturated by the end of a ride. I tend to sweat so much that the guy behind me thinks it's raining though. I got mine for $12 at the LBS. Whatever you get, make sure it is a wicking material and not cotton.

I have found Headsweats to be somewhat effective in reducing sweat dripping from the forehead. I have the "shorty", it has a little sweatband at forehead level. Fairly cheap, lightweight, etc. though it did require a minor loosening of the helmet in order to fit. The idea is to "wick" the sweat over a larger surface area, promoting evaporation . . . rather than letting it concentrate on your forehead or whatever.

I sweat a lot. My Bell Ghisallo helmet has pads that do really well at absorbing sweat. I never have to wear a headband but I have to wash the pads because they get very damped.

Halo here too. Not a drop of sweat in my eyes. Wicks so well that when I take it off,I can feel dry streaks in my hair that correspond to the vents in my helmet.

I was just using a little skull cap thing, but when I took it off today, I found that it was growing mold!!! Guess I should have done more than just rinse it...
Hm, need to stop by the LBS and get me something that actually wicks...

I mostly use Headsweats CoolMax classic skull caps. They're a wicking fabric, dry out fast so never seem to be saturated even though I sweat like a very sweaty thing, and do a good job of keeping my head cooler on hot days, or warmer on cool days.

For those of you with the Headsweats "Shorty", is it a thick material or pretty thin? I had to look around for a thin headband so my helmet would fit over it. Thanks.

I cut sleeves off shirts and use those sleeves like you would a bandana. I understand you're concerned about adding an extra layer of bulk, but in my experience a cotton sleeve doesn't get saturated to the point of being useless. It just sponges everything up and I don't get salty eye burn no matter how drenched I get.

Yeah, get a headband, you can find 'em cheapo at your local mcSports place like big-5. I used to run and needed one. I was getting into rowing and one was becoming necessary. So far my bike helmet pads soak up the sweat in riding (eww) but if I need a headband, I'll get one.
