A MEGA-rider dream ?
What is your vision or dream of what could be?
Why not build a groundswell of enthusiasts finally maturing into an annual cycling media event?
Are any of you also getting annoyed by ICU decisions and concerned about lack of annual cycling promotion in the US? Basketball has it's fantastic four. Football has it's super bowl. Baseball has the world series.
Cycling has zip, nada. Oh, they're the Tours de XYZ, but too remote. It's an international news and not national news, and national always trumps international
Name of the Annual USA Cycling event: to be determined, what's your best suggestion?
All I can come up with is-- MegaRider Tour
Differences from ICU:
1. no minimum weight limits
2. disk brakes are allowed, and drum roll please
3. bents and velocycles and any future designs are permitted but they have to be able to ride in normal conditions and not wait for low wind conditions and must ride up hills.
Goals:
1. highest local participation
2. local media coverage event in each state. Only event I know of, but there may be others, is Ride the Rockies in CO.
3. America's distinction from Tour De France, Italy, etc as more variety in acceptable rides.
4. building interest in the Final MegaRider Tour
5. move from enthusiastic sponsored event to advertiser sponsored event with steering committee transforming into a non profit org.
How it might work:
1. Five week ladder of events: 50 -> 16 -> 8 -> 4 -> 1
2. Staging/Length/Advancement ladder of events
Week 1: 1 state, 2 day State event, 10% advancing to ->
Week 2: 3 states, 2 day Region event, 9% advancing to ->
Week 3: 6 state, 2 day Super Region event, 8% advancing to ->
Week 4: 12 state, 4 day Mega Region event, 7% advancing to ->
Week 5: 1 nation, 4 day National RideOff
Notes:
1. Total ride time is 14 days, 2/3rd the Tour De France
2. Under general subforum rather than advocacy as checking for levels of general interest and not advocating a request for govt funding.
It may be a dream, but it could become reality if there's enought enthusiast interest. What's your dream? What do you think of this vision?

No. Didn't pay attention to cycling before last year. Found out bents made some records here but other than that know zippo. Is that an annual race? Does it have a web site?
