Perhaps if you stop by a novelty shop and get some fake vomit and put it on the seat, the theives will be less enthusiastic.

Alternatively, electrifying the bicycle would be very satisfying ....should those jerks come back and try to rip off your new beauty.

Skip poop, here's my usual solution that I copy and paste liberally.
" Lace the bike with a gel of hydroflouric acid.
When the thief touches it, he won't feel it initially, only after the acid has penetrated his flesh and moved its way into his bones. At that point, the flourine would start dissociating calcium ions in his skeletal components and start moving its way through his system. Unless quickly neutralized by calcium gel, the HF will make its way up through the arm to the heart where it will destabalize heart rythm and lead to massive cardiac arrest."

All these idea are fun but you all know I in reality couldn't do that to my bike. It's just...sacrilegious. To desecrate a bike like that. The horror! Well, except for the Hello Kitty stuff. ;)

Thanks slvoid for the bike seat cable idea. I'm going to head off and get one of those this weekend.

Perhaps this locking skewer set would be an easier solution for the safety of your wheels and seat. I use a similar product and am very happy it.

The bike owner needs to neutralize the acid or have an antidote just in case.

You forgot to post the antido.................................THUD. *body crashes to floor*

Extra locks are a cool idea. Since you are commuting to work you can leave a lock there. Then you don't have to carry it back and forth with you twice a day.

Locking skewers are good too. But still it should be combined with some kind of good locking strategy and mechanism, because a bunch of locks says, you can steal it, but you'll really have to work for it. The key is to be a deterrant and most importantly deter them before they even consider working on your bike. Because once someone decides to work on it, chances are, they already have a good idea where your vulnerabilities are.

Yay for new bikes!
The new lock looks much better than the old lock!
I wouldn't count on the bike lock guarantee however. Most lock guarantees will only pay if you send them the broken lock - evidence that the lock was the reason the bike was stolen (not that you didn't lock it to something secure). But most thieves take the broken lock with them. (I guess so as not to reveal their techniques)

Most companies also specify that they're only to be broken by hand (yeah that's right) without power tools. So if someone comes over with a portable black and decker grinder and chews through the u-lock, no dice.
