Road Biking In The Rain
 

Ive never really had to much experience with riding in the rain... and basically im gonna have to start doing it very much, (just started as courier in dc, and forcast looks like rain all week) any advice, suggestions, anything?

Fenders, poncho, helmet cover, booties, indomitable spirit.

If you have more than 1 bike, use the worst bike you have. Wear bright colors and get a flashing red light so you're visible in traffic. Take a little time to dry off your bike after you get home. Installing fenders will help keep you from getting road dirt from staining your clothes. Don't assume that a puddle is shallow - it may actually be a lot deeper than it appears.

In DC I would fully expect my bike to be stolen. Don't use a good one. Get a Wal-Mart bike for work.

It seems the further you are from DC, the bigger the generalizations.

It's funny, I'm actually in DC, and I ride (and park my bike outside) almost every day and I haven't had a bike stolen in eight years -- and that was one I accidentally left unlocked in my front yard. Ten years ago things were different.

I ride in the rain just about every rainy day. I used to have fenders but I took them off and never missed them. If you're riding for any length of time, it's impossible to stay dry, your thinking should be about being as comfortable as possible while soaking wet. A helmet liner is good. I like to use lights as well.
