Rubber coating for slick shoes?

Has anyone tried a spray-on coating to:

1. Protect
2. Give traction to

slick soled road shoes? I picked up a pair of carbon soled shoes which are slick as snot but are also taking a beating if I don't ballerina walk. I'm thinking of spraying autoimotive undercoat or something like that on the soles to give them more traction and protect the carbon from chips.

No, I don't care about looks or weight.

Seems a reasonable solution. You might also consider skate board tape. It's that skid resistant stuff on top of boards.

Wear mountain bike shoes?

On topic: Sounds like a decent idea.

Unfortunately MTB shoes (with the SPD cleat) messed up my feet, so I switched to road for the wider cleats available. Believe me, I'd rather be able to walk in the shoes, but since the only MTB like shoes that handle larger cleats tend to size small in the toes, I was left getting comfy on the bike shoes that are the devil to walk in.
