Bike computer

I just want some opinions. I want a bike computer for mainly to see how far i went...and to keep mileage and mph stats. I want one thats cheap and fairly reliable. Any suggestions? Im new to this MTB gig so go slow. Price is an issue. I have seen some good ones for 30 bucks. Opinions? Thanks in advance

The VDO C1 is cheap, reliable, and very easy to navigate. It also comes with with a five year warranty.

The Sigma BC 500 is cheap and simple to use. It only keeps track of 5 functions - speed, distance, trip distance, time of day, and trip (riding) time. I bought it for under $20 at a LBS.

Topeak Panoram 17 functions, read at a glance, mounts over the center of the stem, backlight, looks damn impressive and costs $39 Au.so should be peanuts in the USA.

I've had a Schwinn cheapie on my hybrid for 2 years now. Got it at Wally Mart for 10 bucks. Never had a problem with it.
