Aye yi yiii!!!!

I've had 2 flats since Thursday guys!!!!! Both times I didn't have my flat tire gear. The first time I was only a few blocks away form the bike shop, the second I was luckily riding with a buddy who had her stuff. She had one of those CO2 things, it was super cool! I'm going to get one on Friday when my check comes in. Last time I had to use my mini pump I couldn't get the air pressure in my road tyre anywhere near the minimum reccomended presssure, but the CO2 filled it up in seconds.
Anyway, besides needing to carry my flat tire gear at all times, I'm thinking I need new tyres also. Do the Specialized tyres with kevlar in them work?

Fubie,

When it comes to CO2 pumps, make sure it doesn't use "threaded" cartridges. That way, you can use 12-gram BB-gun CO2 cartridges at about 50 cents apiece instead of $2.00 apiece at the bike shop.

It's a wonderful invention, but I don't know how long it will be before they realize they need to make all pumps the "threaded" type so you can't do as I've described above.

In the meantime, carefully put your pump inbetween your knees (if possible) for that extra pressure.

(And stay out of the sand and gravel--that's where sharp bits hide.)

Matt, What's going on here? Tyres???
Did you move to the UK?? ;) <j/k>

The kevlar works for me. I've got Vittoria Rubino Intrepid Kevlar on my commuter and haven't had problems with the "F" word yet.
 I hope I haven't cursed myself.
Hey tire gods, I didn't say the actual word, just made a reference to "F". :(

yeah, this is a good tip! I have one of these, I believe made my Innovations. You can also buy a can of their own brand (small) that inflates a whole slew of tubes :)

I must say the use of the Queen's English on the boards, my aren't we becoming civilized, spot on. Now we colonialists need to start sitting down to kidney pie, and start our day with bangers and eggs. Of course like the rest of the world we'll have to stop for tea. At the end of a good ride, we can sit around the pub eating chips, and tossing back pints, careful on the draugh there barkeep.

Say any good traveling tea kits?

Servus!

Fubar, ya goof! Buy a set of Mr. Tuffy's and quit whining!

(Hiya kids! Miss me?)

Mr Tuffy's? What are those?

bikerTeen 08-26-02 04:52 PM

Mr. Tuffy's are tire (tyre) liners that are made out of a hard flexible plastic. They go in between the tube and the tire, so if a rock, piece of glass, etc. penetrates the outer tire, it will hopefully stop at the liner before puncturing the tube. I bought a pair, but haven't put them in yet... If I get a flat I guess that will motivate me to install them.

Hope this helps! :)
