If you had to replace your bike, same one or different one?
 

I've been spending a lot of time as a bike newbie going about creating my ideal bike. Recently the thought occurred to me. Imagine you bought a relatively new bike. You took the time to set it up and customize it to your liking. In the event it's irritrievably gone by whatever means, would you try to replicate the same bike, or start new with a different make / model and components?

Do you mean I lose the CURRENT bike I have right now, or are you talking about if I bought a new bike and then lost it?

If I lost my current bike, I'd definitely get a road bike instead (current is a hybrid).

If I lost the road bike, well, at the moment, I can't imagine why I'd get a different one unless the reason for loss was somehow related to the bike itself. But realisticly I think I'd probably have a different idea of my ideal bike by then so I probably wouldn't replicate it exactly.

I would set up another road fixie but use a track frame instead of doing a road bike conversion. I would use similiar components because when I set my current bike up I did a bunch of research on what I wanted for her.

I love my Trek Pilot 5.0 but if I had to get a new bike, I'd upgrade one model and get the Trek 5.2.

Always different - no sense in going back. Preferably VERY different - from road racing to touring to recumbent to fixed to tandem, etc. So many bikes - so little time! :D

Pretty much the same a Trek OCLV 5200, but maybe I'd bump up to the Madone. I love both the road bikes I have now, and rue the days that I would ever part with them. I want a OCLV TT bike next! :-)

Since Trek doesn't make my 1994 7000 Aluminum MTB anymore...

I would look into a Cross Bike...maybe even a roadie

But I would probably look at the FX's before shopping around.

Any reason or excuse is good enough to justify an upgrade. Always want more and better :)

I'd always go for a different replacement. No matter how expensive and exotic of a bike you buy, there will always be something newer and possibly better next year.

I find my Specialized Sequoia Elite to be an ideal bicycle for me, as I think it would be for most people: light, fast, comfortable, braze-ons for racks, etc. It was love at first sight. Still. . . . If I had to replace it, I'd look at the Specialized Roubaix, which is one step "up" but with many of the same characteristics. I guess I'm just a faithless little ****. :o

I'd have to go up to the Fuji Team series if my roadie got stolen. The hybrid... I don't know.......probably stay at the same level.

I would try something different. What fun is replacing something with the exact same thing? There are alot of options for excellent bikes out there, why not try one if you have the opportunity?

I would really love to have bikes for all forms of riding... full on road bike, touring bike, full suspension off road... those would get me started....

Again, as first poster. If lost current bike, or knowing what I know now, would I get the same bike. No.

1. Budget of $1K was too low. I would raise that to $4K.
2. Style of bike was right.
3. Components were almost right. I'd upgrade: rack. headlights, and cyclometer.
4. Frame was too harsh, Al. I'd go with Ti or CF.
5. might get panniers.
6. get a tad higher quality jerseys

Since Machak IS my dream bicycle ... if, God forbid, something were to happen to him, I would want to replicate him as closely as possible.

That said ... I'm still making minor modifications to Machak. :)

If I lost my bike.....Now there's a way to convince my wife I need to spend more on my new bike.

I'd probably get another LeMond BA if I could get a good price, but 2 cm larger frame.

I have a Canny R4000si, however if I could replace it I would want a replica of my 1985 Ciocc Mockba 531 SL Columbus frame. It was great, but stolen!!!!

I know I would have nightmares and be pretty much traumatized if I lost my 5200. I would have to get the same. The wife just made me clear room in the garage for her car, so I HAD to move my bike into the living room. Which is a better place anyway.
