My best advice as a vet and a lifelong supporter of our right to bear arms (though I am on the fence when it comes to arming bears) - get over it, this ain't Iraq, da Nam or my personal favorite garden spot ****hole, Beirut. If you have seen combat then you know darned well - when your number is up, your number is up - no sense worrying over it. Life is just too darned short and too darned precious to spend time worrying about **** happening that is beyond your control anyway.

Hey I live in the county with the second most per-capita permits to carry a concealed weapon county in the US! I never carry a gun and ride through some 7 (on a US scale of 10), worse areas in the city. Only slighly more likely to die by gun then car. You'd probably do better to wear your bike helmet in the car! Dont forget some of those gun deaths where caused by the victoms gun.

Annual Causes of Death in the United States
Motor Vehicle Crashes 26,3471
Adverse Reactions to Prescription Drugs 32,0002
Suicide 30,6223
Incidents Involving Firearms 29,0001

I've been looking all over for that photo! Thanks for posting the URL.

Man. I thought everyone packed a gun while riding these days........
This seems familiar. This is the same smart ass reply I said on the last gun thread.
But seriously, is it okay to use the same oil on my gun as I use for my bike chain?

Mili-Tech works great on firearms AND chains.

I carry a pea-shooter and a couple bags of frozen peas with me.
Does that count?

royalflash 09-30-05 11:28 AM

AGAIN - just see the last 10 times this thread was started-

and yes I always carry an RPG - handguns just donīt stop those SUVīs quick enough for my liking

A Samurai sword is a good choice because the scabbard can align with the fork, hidden in plain sight. A blowgun might be even better, aligned with the top tube.

atbman 09-30-05 04:05 PM

(Some) Americans are truly weird abut guns. Perhaps you could use them to shoot down the guvmint's black helicopters. Or to blow holes in the numbers on the road signs which the Russian invaders are going to use so that they can find the concentration camps they are going to put good Americans in when they invade on behalf of the UN

Not to mention arming yourself against the risk of upsetting the relatives of "Duelling Banjos"-playing inbreds when on tour.

Thank you for your service to our country!

You don't have to carry a gun. You just have to make them bad guys THINK you're carrying a gun. A replica will do. After all is there anybody here who has actually fired their gun in a bicycle related situation?

Me, I'm looking for a replica of a tactical nuclear weapon.

AtlPirate 09-30-05 10:50 PM

i mean...carrying a replica sounds really kind of not smart to me, just because what if for some reason you actually do pull it out...and then they pull out their real gun, are you going to fire Replica bullets back at them too?...and Phinney i appreicate it a lot, Those guys that are there right now need all hte supposrt that they can get from us back home.

Even replicas aren't allowed in the UK :)

Bad, bad idea that could easily get you killed. I can see the epitaph on your tombstone:

"Brought a toy to a gun fight"

I don't recommend carrying a gun, but if you feel the need to do so, do it - do not engage in half-measures and dangerous fakery. (fakery? MMMM donuts....)

russdaz 10-01-05 07:47 PM

nope hand guns are banned fullstop over here. think id be worried by acidently activating a live fire arm in the event of a crash.

Thank you for your service. As a Viet Vet - I'd keep quiet. Unless one has seen the beast, they don't understand and really don't want to listen. Take care brother. Glad you made it back.

AtlPirate 10-01-05 08:42 PM

Appreicate it red barron.
