Turned the tables
 

Hi all, had a funny to share with you. My normal daily loop is about 12 miles. At one point I encounter 3 small dogs. I've come to expect this without fail, although I don't welcome it.

They are a bit of a nuissance and the usual squirtting at them with some water or stopping or yelling at them only slows their attempts to 'show me who's boss'.

This morning I let them chase me for a bit as usual and then when they tired, I, for some reason, turned around and chased them! The little bastiges ran right down the middle of the road with me behind yelling and carrying on like an idiot! I must have chased them for about 1/2 mile! I found it excessively entertaining and hope to do this everyday, or until the owners decide to give a rip and restrain them. Until then - they are fair game.

Careful, it's not a good idea to play in traffic. You or the dogs may get more than they bargained for.

Must have been halarious. I've done that with deer and bunnies. I dont know why but sometimes rabits just run down the trail in front of me. The deer ran for about 350 feet until it could jump up a smaller hill. The thing was trapped between a river and a steep cliff.

LOL I want a picture of that.


I had a standard (big, full size) Poodle run along side one time seemed to be more of a "no your not faster then me" thing. The thing matched my speed for a good 1/2 mile. Dogs can be fun but are very unpredictable as to what you are going to get.

Great!! You are more persistent than myself. I only chase the dog for a block or so. Thanks for the role reversal laugh.

True. That is something I thought about before I whipped the bike around. Always looking out for traffic!

Riding on a 5 day trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway with a friend several years ago, on one long uphill stretch, a dog came out and started chasing us - running fast. Being that it was a serious uphill, we were not able to haul a$$. Once he got alongside, the dog slowed down to match our speed. He spent the next hour or so running along side of us and then disapered. Hopefully, he found his way home.

There is a farm 10 miles away from paved roads far out in the county. I have passed it many, many mornings and always heard a dog barking yet I never saw him. A couple days ago, we met. He must have been "loose' and man was he agitated.

He didn't know what to do. He kept running in front of my wheel and then slowing down with his tail between his legs. At one point i actually hit him with the front tire and he really didn't care. He was just so stupid that i couldn't even bring myself to pepper spray him. I guess I sort of considered it a waste of pepper spray.

Finally after a 20 + mph downhill sprint on a rough gravel road (probably not too smart) , I lost him. He was still chasing me but he got dropped. This was easily the most persistant, and stupid dog i have ever encountered on the bike in thousands of miles of daily riding.

He had the look of a dog that wasn't loose very often and had a BIG dose of leash fever. Either way, I know we will meet again. It is usually about sunrise when i go by there so it will be fun. I look forward to our next meeting, and this time i will teach him a lesson. He will get the doggy perfume and hopefully learn a lesson, I am not going to put myself in harms way to try and outrun him. No matter how fun, it is too dangerous.

Well the fun is over. Seems these dogs are smarter than they appear - as now they run off the road when I slow to turn around. Now I gotta get a plan B!
