Tour de Cure

Next month I am participating in the Tour de Cure ride for diabetes. Its an 85k ride and all the procedes go to help fighting the disease. Im not really insolociting donations or anything like that, but the whole "diabetes" part kind of hits home.

I have a cousin that has had diabetes her entire life. It stunnted her growth substantially and she was always sick and in and out of the hospital. At first she only had to have one kidney removed. As it progressed, they had to take the other one out too. The doctors told her parents that she needed a kidney, or she was doing to die. I have a large family with plenty of aunts and uncles and cousins and a few people checked to see if they were compatible. As it turns out the only one that matched was my mom. So at age 40 my mom gave one of her kidneys to my 11 year old cousin. That was in 1998.

You never really know how bad something is untill it affects you or someone you love. If you'd like to donate, please click thie link in my sig. The ride is Nov. 20th and each supporters name will find its way on my bike and i'll be sure to post pics.
Thanks
Dre

I want to say thank you for doing this ride. I had planned to do one or two this summer in honor of my wife who is a T1 diabetic. Unfortunately, she's been sick all summer and I wasn't able to pull it off. On the other hand, she was sick because she's pregnant, so I'm ecstatic about it! Next year, however....

Good luck on your ride!

I rode the metric one in Georgia this year for my brother - type 1, juvenile onset diabetes - he's had it since I was five, so I 'grew up' with it. The ride was a blast - my first organized ride, and even though it was pouring rain, everyone was terrific. Have fun!

Inkdwheels, good luck and have fun. I did the Tour de Cure in May in NYC and I hated it because almost the whole ride was up hill. HOWEVER, I did get a massage at the end by two women masseuses who didn't think anything wrong w/ sticking my hands, knees, and other body parts on their ample breasts while they worked me over. That massage more than made up for all the damn hills. Plus it's for a good cause and Type 2 diabetes runs in my family. But I'm still waiting for them to send me the free stuff I was supposed to get for raising so much money.

Edit: I just received my TdC jersey today. What a coincidence! It's XL and makes me look like a poorly stuffed sausage. I guess I should lose about 60 lbs to make it fit right.

*I* am a mild type II and just heard about the ride last week. I'm pretty sure I'll be doing it next month.
