powder coating

i have a kona 6061 aluminium frame and im trying to get it resprayed. the only company that i have found to do it in bristol for a reasonable price can powder coat it for 35 quid, however on the kona website it says powder coating an aluminium frame is not permitted. Everywhere else says that powder coating aluminium is fine, does anyone know anything about it?

I had two sets of aluminium wheels for my old Volvo blasted and powder coated, with great results. One set is assigned to winter duties, which implies close contact with salty slush. After two years, they still look like new.

Erling.

Not allowed ?
Odd

Powder coating does indead work on aluminum. But it requires a different cleaning process than steel.

Some powder coaters will only have 1 or the other pre cleaning systems. Make sure the places you check have the ability to treat aluminum.

If the frame was previously coated with wet paint, it needs to be completly removed. Every speck. If it isnt, the old paint will bubble up in the oven and ruin the new finish.

I had a broken aluminum frame fixed and the guys that did it asked me if I wanted it powder coated for not much extra. Here's the result.
