Justice is a dish best served swiftly

The main street through town is undergoing major construction, as a result cage jockeys are shooting down sidestreets to avoid long waits at traffic lights in busy intersections.

For the last two plus years I have commuted along the back streets year round, always going a little out of my way to avoid busier streets, now the traffic has moved onto what I consider "My Streets". Today there was a conflict of interest, here's what happened.

This morning Joe Fourbyfour did a rolling stop through a intersection in which I had the right of way, he either didn't see me or couldn't be inconvenienced by a fool on a bicycle. I slowed to a near stop to avoid hitting him and gave him the hardest stare I could muster hoping to convey my displeasure with his inconsiderate driving and then continued on my way.

Not 5 seconds later I hear the screech of tires and KABOOM, seems that Sammy Sedan has done a rolling stop through the next intersection up the street at which Joe Fourbyfour had the right of way, only, unlike the fool on a bicycle, Mr. 4X4 was going way to fast to stop.

Aw shucks, I know I shouldn't be smiling as I type this, but I really can't help it

Ok, I'm handing out free gloating permits in this thread... here ya go, and one for you, and one for you...

I'm afraid every two days or so, I see people driving irresponsibly (not signalling, etc) and then getting obstructed by another person doing the exact same thing, and I inwardly roll my eyes and mumble "heh... they deserve eachother!" And yes, usually the people in question are in those big motorized steel things.

Though I hesitate to be pleased about any accident, there is room for noting that the person probably brought it upon his or herself.

I quite often comment to my wife when I observe misbehavior on the part of a cyclist or a motorist, "They may have gotten away with it this time, but at some point they will get what they are asking for."

Guy in the 4x4 should have made a complete stop, he would have just fallen short of the window of time in that accident at the next intersection. This is all I got to say about 4x4 dude clicky

I wonder about the humanity of this forum.

Should we really be gloating about the misfortune of others?

Should we find pleasure in others' misery?

How can we be pleased when others suffer?

Why have I got a big silly grin on my face after reading this thread?

Really, it's quite easy.

Hmmm, why do we feel so glad? He didn't hit a kid crossing the street, he didn't nail a bicyclist, a motorcyclist, etc. I guess I can be happy to that. Aside from the fact that expensive lessons are the ones longest remembered (assuming he is the type of person who actually learns from his/her mistakes):

it is amazing that these signs (like STOP) are viewed as mere suggestions and not as a law.

I think the biggest pity about this is that it sounds like the accident will be judged as the sole fault of the sedan driver, whose insurance will pay for all the 4x4's damage......too bad.
