Rainman, Is that you?

I just pulled this picture off Yahoo! news: ;)

A cyclist crosses flooded Bourbon Street in the French Quarter as Tropical Storm Isidore approaches New Orleans, Louisiana, September 25, 2002. Isidore headed north toward the U.S. Gulf Coast Wednesday, bearing heavy rain and wind as Louisiana evacuated 8,000 people from low-lying communities and Alabama and Mississippi readied for the storm's arrival. I wish they would share some of that wonderful rain with us. It is way to dry here.

He has a good rainsuit, but no fenders. I wonder why...

Look at the bike Alexy. Its an mtb. He don't need no fenders. He ain't afraid of no rain. He must be an ex-roadie in denial. Who else but a frustrated roadie would wear an outfit like that on an mtb. No offence to roadies intended...:D

The outfit may be because he's going someplace where he can't change and will be there for a while.

No doubt, Raymond is Rainman this week.

Alas, no, it was not I. But it would have been! Unfortunately, I am still off the bike until after doc appt tomorrow. YAY! I rode home in Tropical storm Allison last year. It would have kicked this lame excuse for a storm in the a$$. There was also a little storm back in May that actually forced me to RIDE HOME IN A CAR for the first time in OVER A YEAR! I tried to ride home, but after the 50-60 mph almost blew me literally off the bike and into traffic I decided discretion was indeed the better part of valor.

I would have been out there without fenders right now, too. I just loaned Yorick to a friend who needed a bike to start an exercise program. Yorick did a good job for me; hope he helps my friend. He was really the only option since my friend's legs are a little shorter even though we are the same height. Yorick's compact geometry allowed me to make a good fit. Plus my buddy was nervous about skinny tires, and Yorick is perfectly happy with 35-38 mm.

So I am without my ever-faithful foul weather frieng, BUT this is part of a cleverly laid plan. I have a nice old TREK frame that Rainbabe has been after me to toss. Now I HAVE to build it up as an alternative fixed gear commuter. You wouldn't want me riding my good bikes in the rain would you? It seems to me I have no choice, right? What do you think about a nice flat black paint job with black bar tape and stuff? Maybe cyclocross knobbies? Sort of a stealth urban assault vehicle (SUAVE?) Though a nice glossy black would look awfully good when the sun hits it. Oh, the sweet agony.

That wouldn't be the infamous trash trek that we were
discussing now would it? I would faithfully say that it
IS a good bike. But then again I've been hanging out
with the Classic Rendezvous crowd lately. . .

That Trek deserves campy nuovo or super Record components
and Fiamme ergal rims (well maybe some nice old mavic).

This only leaves one other explanation. Big Bird has finally learned to ride a bike. I'm just surprised he isn't towing Elmo in a Burley. :D
