Training Log Software
 

Hey guys,

I wondering if anyone has had any experience with either the Giga-Bike (www.giga-bike.com) or CrossTrak (www.crosstrak.com) training log software? Can you tell me anything about them? Like, dislikes, etc.

I'm partial to CycliStats myself, but as the author, I'm 100% biased :D. It's been on the market for 3 years or so, and is (IMO) very good. You can download a free, fully functional 30-day trial version from the website.

As for Giga-Bike - they've only been on the market a few months. I downloaded their evaluation version, and was pretty p*ssed to see that they had copied some large sections of my program (the Options window, the way of describing terrain based on profile, etc.) :mad: I also don't understand how they can claim to be on version 5.9, when the software has just been released. I suspect they numbered it that way because CycliStats is on version 4.10 :mad:

I've not evaluated Cross-Trak in a few years. As I recall it was OK (especially for cross-training), but a bit clunky to use.

All 3 products offer trial versions, so you can download each and try for a few weeks to see which one best suits your needs.

I'll second SSP's plug of CycliStats. I'm not biased, don't know SSP, and am just a user of the software, but I like it a lot. It seems to do everything I need plus a whole lot more. It's reliable, easy to use, and the interface is simple to understand. Excellent program.

google for bikelog1.9 and bikepro. Both are excellant. I am evaluating 4 different ones. I switched to a wireless link (polar cs200cad) cyclocomputer so I am sorta locked into the polar software, but pccoach is supposed to be adding this unit to their database soon. There sure are some very varied programs to choose from. I think I ride just to generate data to plug in and generate charts!!!!!!

A couple of options for GPS aficionados are TopoFusion and MotionBased. There is a chapter on TopoFusion in my book, GPS Mapping. And here is a a review I posted about MotionBased.

If you have a GPS, you can input that info and it'll give you maps of the routes you did and you could export those into google earth afterwards also.

Having been a "lurker" for the last several months, I finally feel I have something to add...

I just purchased & regestered my "Cyclistat" & "Weight Ware" after a couple week trial period. I am no racer, so a few of the features are a luxury, but virtually all the information I have tracked over the years on paper or in Excel are provided for on one or the other programs and I love the way the two "talk" to each other!!! (Both being from Shasta Software...)

Maybe there is something out there that would suit this fitness cyclist better, but it's not worth looking for after finding this topic and these programs in mid December. Great stuff, Shasta!!!

Why do people want to train logs? I've never seen one that could do anything but roll over.

I'm in on Cyclistats. Just bought that one too and it does track everything I used to have on an excel spreadsheet with a lot less work on my part. I can't imagine anything doing more, so then it comes down to user interface. For that, you just gotta find what you like.

I use Cyclistats and am very happy with it, however, with a new christmas bike came a new christmas computer (Polar cs200) with the sonic link function. The upload feature is too easy but does not connect to Cyclistats (i found a program that claims to connect to the sonic link output and produce a hrm file- which would be importable to Cyclistats), however, the cs200 capabilities are in beta distrobution and don't work yet. Until then- manual inputs continue.

Thanks for the CycliStats recommendation. I really enjoy this program. It is easier to keep track of my rides, then other things I was doing.

Do any of these programs make use of GPS capabilities? I recently bought a Garmin Edge 305 HR/CAD bundle and dont like the training center software much and im looking for a replacement. Do any of the above mentioned programs offer what training center does?

Have you tried Motionbased with your Garmin 305?
