Nope - Cycling shorts are meant to be next to the skin so the pad can absorb sweat and wick some moisture away. If you wear underwear, the cotton'll rub against the skin & leave you with serious chaffeing in short order.

Some cyclists wear underwear with their shorts, but they're a serious minority.

As an aside, your handle intrigues me - what's your audio system? PM me with an answer or the moderator'll move this thread & you won't get any more responses on topic!

Also, (and, again, on topic) if you're male, the danglies go front, center, and straight up in the cycling shorts. This keeps parts from getting between the seat and the thigh and helps prevent agony if you have to make an emergency stop and land on your top tube.

Happy pedaling!

Well if it's a stupid question it's as old as cycling shorts themselves. BTW, **flings hair back, bats eyes** "nothing comes between me and my Izumis!"

Someone posted a picture somewhere showing this...

Well, also you don't want to be sitting on them when you're bent over riding as well. Nothing worse than squeezing them into the seat on each pedal stroke...

I asked a Scotsman a similar question once. His answer was that it depended on whether you wanted to be traditional or respectable.

WAIT!!

I have some spandex briefs - underwear - to wear under my unpadded lycra shorts.
They let most of the moisture out with the addition of keeping the family heirloom snugly tucked up up and away!

TARGET has them ... Merona is the brand.

They also have some shirts - long and short sleeve - that are snug and wick the moisture away rather rapidly.

unpadded shorts don't count. . .
I think we can safely say we are discussing
shorts with a built in chamois. . .

I believe even the Underwear Nazi would agree with
wearing underwear with padding with unpadded shorts.

That might be true if we assume the wearer is riding an upright bike and not a recumbent. I don't believe the OPs bike style was specified. I usually wear unpadded shorts and unpadded coolmax underwear; but when all my unpadded stuff is dirty, I'll resort to wearing my padded/diaper shorts with no underwear.
