How does one..

write a post that people actually respond to? I've only posted a couple of times but it dies faster than a SNL joke.

What is the secret?

Either all of the above or try posting something that hasn't been posted to death already.

Nah if you post something that has been posted to death at least you have a chance that someone will come in and flame you.

Actually... if you put the words "Do Not Reply... Only a Test" in the subject line, there are folks around here who will become obsessed to that thread in an unhealthy way and it will become one of the most replied-to threads of all time.

It's kind of like grade school: Become popular. Then, no matter what you post, everyone wants to be a part of it.

we've all started a tread before with less than stellar results. thankfully you haven't started one that got 0 replies. those really hurt. i've called my mother in tears a few times over stuff like that.

I refer to myself as "The Thread Killer". It seems like more often than not, I'll make a reply to a post and when I check later in the day, I'm still the last one to post!

Watch.

Ask any stupid question in BMX, and you will get 20 responses.

Make a racial comment in P&R and you will get 30 responses.

Ask about VC in A&S, and you will get 50 responses.

Other than those suggestions, ask yourself a few questions. Has your topic been covered already? Is it a valid question? Is it something other members might have an interest in? Do you have bad breath?

Cheers.

MMACH 5: I'm sure there's a very clever implied punch line about what else you wipe and with what, to go with you sig, but I'm apparently too stunned to get it.

If everything else fails, you can always shoot to elevate the conversation with an insightful post like this. Plenty of feedback there.

Actually, it's pretty straight forward.

A few weeks ago, after pushing up a rather steep hill, I had some... oh we'll call it foam, at the corners of my mouth along with some fuzz on my tongue, from my neck gaiter. Unfortunately, I wiped it off with the same glove that I had been using to catch the drips from my nose. It was salty and nasty, so I now make a mental note of which glove is for what.

It really is just what it says, but I think there are similar rules for going pottie in the woods

Ask where all the hot babes who know campy is better than Shimano, who appreciate that no other material will ever equal steel, that feel overweight out-of-shape people shouldn't ride nice bikes, and are always willing to brag about their latest conquest (on a bike that is). I think that should just about cover it. (works best if the hot babe is also working on being one of the top 1000 bike racers)
