Yeah, I bought from performance bike....but my gripe and cancelled order was from FedEX choosing to go out and make their own shipment demands beyond what the sender requested.

As some of you know, my Ritchey V4pro pedals gave out, and I ordered some eggbeaters from performancebike.com, and wanted to have them early so I can get my cleat positions set up so I can do the "ride with the legend" this sunday...

...so today was the big day to get them....what does their online say? "Person or business closed" WTH??? So, I go to the apartment office after work...they were there the entire time. I go upstiars to my apartment....little door tag "shipment not delivered due to security reasons"...note that none of the tags regarding signatures are checked. The apartment office has legal permission to co-sign in my place, and I know it's within FedEX plicy to drop it off there.

So, i call FedEX, and he claims that I have to be at my apartment, and sign it myself...nice, so I have to skip work, so their cheesy little company can ship a $50 pair of pedals? forget that. so I ask if they can ship it after 3:30pm...NO....can you ship saturday....NO.....heck, I'm not riding down Gandy during peak traffic times, and risking my life for a pair of pedals...so I refused shipment and told them to send it back.

Then called Performance and cancelled my order. They were pretty receptive, and rather shocked to hear about FedEX's hostility.

Either way, due not only to this incident, but many other incidents, FedEX is now a business I will not deal with anymore...sadly that means no more performancebike (and subsidiaries)...oh well....I made sure they understood that as well.

On the bright side, I just managed to "fix" my damaged pedal...bearing races are shot, but I'm confident it will at least last me a weekend. I just refuse to ride more than 5 miles on any pedal with as much float as my backups...my bum ankle can't take it....just hurts too much.

Has anyone else had problems with FedEX making up their own rules as they go like this, or is it just the Pinellas Park center that's this ********?

I think UPS is far and away the best shipping company. The are so reliable it renews my love of modern-day multinational capitalism.

- interesting... FedEx leaves two-day packages on my doorstep w/no problem - UPS has the most spotty service for me (nearly 100 percent damage rate on packages)...

- will your complex office sign for packages? sounds like a really confused driver! (and sucks big time)... has this happened before? have you had FedEx or U.S. Snail 'sig required' deliveries before?

Yep, the office has signed for packages on my behalf numerous times, from many carriers.

It seemed to not be the driver, but FedEX themselves chose to alter the shipment's signature requirements without permission from either party. Oddly for me UPS and DHL are the best carriers. I had great experience with Airborne as well, but they are like always, pricey as all heck.

If the driver was confused, it was in checking the wrong box on the slip....either way I just could not believe how inflexible these guys are.

I remember back when I worked for a start-up, I heard our shipping guy gripe about their support all the time...but he was a mouthy little prick...so I gave FedEX the benefit of the doubt. I could go on about my past experiences, but all it will do is spew forth bad vibes....there's been about 10 shipments in this past year, I had to make the 30 mile round trip on my bike (I live car-free) to pick up...one of them was 30lbs....in my messenger bag....man was I ticked off.

Good thing I got my videocard that's coming in tomorrow shipped via UPS, that's all I gotta say.

fedex leaves stuff at my house too! however, to alleviate any problems... i always have my performance orders shipped to me at work.... (unless i don't plan to be here, of course!) i ordered taking advantage of the .99 shipping and expect my order here at work tomorrow!

UPS leaves stuff at my door. For FedEx, I generally have it shipped to work. Otherwise, I either have to be home when they come or I have to drive out to their airport office.

The key is to know what works and doesn't work for your home and to make your shipping choices accordingly.

I would if it was allowed....problem with working for a place that's also a govt. contract manufacturer...no personal deliveries (pizza is the exception, pick up in parking lot only). If you leave with only what you entered with, then by theory you can't leave with anything you aren't supposed to.

FedEx and UPS drivers should all collectively receive a few lumps of coal this year for parking their big stupid trucks in dangerous places. And yes, they do receive tickets for their ridiculous parking and driving habits, I've seen it happen. They're not exempt from the law.

FedEx 2 day, Standard Overnite, Priority Overnite, First Overnite requires a signature for delivery unless otherwise directed by the shipper (Performance).

FedEx Ground and UPS will deliver without a signature.

Whenever I order tires, jerseys mailorder I usually go the cheapest shipping method and have the carrier drop of the package at my door.

The last time I used FedEx I ordered a set of wheels. I tracked the package and made sure I was home when FedEx arrived. I didn't use UPS for this order because I didn't want my box of wheels sitting in front of my house all day.

And when they (UPS) charge outrageous custom brokerage fees to ship to Canada. How does $25 sound on a $10 item that doesn't even have duty or tax payable. My favourite was when they used to leave firearms between my front doors. I know, I know, how do they know what's in the package? Hmmm, long box, shipper address is a gun dealer. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.

FedEx once left a package containg a $2400 laptop on my door. The driver did cover the box with my doormat.

I signed a waiver with Fed- Ex so they will leave items on my porch without a signature.

UPS sucks. I had a decent sized order coming in two packages, since there was a bulky part of my order. Well, they had both packages on the truck but chose to deliver one right away and come back later to deliver the other. Then the morons never showed back up. Sometimes, you just can't rely on anything but God and a dollar, and even that gets shaky from time to time.

This time of year, both FedEx and UPS will botch quite a bit of stuff. Lots of temporary workers that don't know the ins and outs I guess.

You indicated that you used FedEx, but I didn't see (and maybe I missed it), which service you used. If it was FedEx Ground, FedEx probably defaulted to Home Delivery which means that you got an independent contractor for a driver who gets a lousy contract from FedEx to deliver packages. Now, if it was ground service, that is a wholly owned subsidiary formerly known as RPS (Roadway) which is on an entirely different computer system/set of rules than FedEx Express (the normal FedEx service). If it was regular FedEx, well, then they just really messed up.

Yeah, but they're exempt in practice, at least in NYC. Here, there are actually "bulk rates" for parking tickets, so the worst offenders pay the least in practice per offense; I'm told it's often as low as $5 per, which makes illegally leaving your truck out in the middle of traffic vastly cheaper than parking it legally.

It was 2-day service. I'm too paranoid to wait 7 days for ground without going nuts. (like, what if terrorists took my pedals for ransom, like oh my god...I need another sip of espresso...WOAH! like my package is not here yet, I'll probably see the bearings from the pedal at the foot of my bed when I wake up...the mob's probably got it EEEK!! )

Except for the part where they can't find my condo and mail me a postcard, with the address they have, asking me to call them to stop by and pick up my package. (Why didn't they just follow the USPS truck to my place? Or better yet mail me the package. At least USPS always can find me!) Or the time they delivered my package to the wrong address and the web site stated that the package was left at my door. I got the package the next day by talking to a neighbor I saw outside and the person who lives next door came out with it. She had no idea why UPS gave her the package.

i don't really have an issue with either! the ups guy that does my work used to do my neighborhood so he would always bring my packages addressed to home.. to work! (now he is strictly work *pout*)

fedex is always right on time! the home delivery guy always brings my stuff to my house if it's addressed to work cuz he doensn't get here (to work) before 4

the only issues i ever have is the rare occasion that the packages get sidetracked along the way... otherwise my fedex (home and express) and ups guys ROCK! (so does my mailman! i'm lucky i guess!

I have never had a problem with USPS. It is to the point that if I can’t get it USPS I get it from somewhere else.

Why didn't you just go down to the FedEx warehouse that serves your address that evening and pick it up? If you look at the back of the slip they left, there should be an address where you can go after the indicated time (7:00PM in my case) and pick up the package in person. You'd have your pedals on the bike now.

If you read the OP, he said he doesn't want to risk his life to ride there and get them.

I have had even worse experiences with FedEx, they didn't even leave a notice or any sign that they had been here. In fact, I don't think they ever DID come here, just claimed to, and said they couldn't get into the building. I sat here for two full days waiting for them to show, and they never did, but the driver claimed to have attempted delivery. That was a LIE. This happened not once but TWICE, we will never ever use FedEx again. UPS has been flawless.
