PS. I know the Rudolph one isn't cycling related, but I've had "issues" with that song for many, many years, so I really got a kick out of the cartoon. :D

All are great -- my favorite being the one in the middle . . . "used" to laugh and call him names. Haven't we all been in that state of mind at some point along the way?!

The issues with the Rudolph song certainly is one of the more interesting sidenotes I've read in quite some time. Best wishes on that.

Edited to say: I just went through the words of the song . . . and I think that *I* may have issues with it, too!
Hey . . . he wasn't good enough for anyone until he could save the day? Then, after saving the day for the creeps that called him names, they want to be his friend? I say, no way! Bugger off you little four legged losers!

Interesting!

Of course, those are now *my* own issues with the song (thank you very much!) . . . others' may be different.

Yeah ... those are exactly my issues with that song ... here's Rudolph who looks different from the other reindeer because of his nose, so everyone is laughing at him (no tolerance among those reindeer!!) ... then along comes Santa who discovered that he needs this different physical feature that Rudolph has, and he is put into the lead position on the team. Well, all of a sudden these reindeer who were laughing at him are now sucking up to him because he is in a position of power. But what would happen if Santa downsized and didn't need Rudolph anymore ... I bet these other reindeer wouldn't be true friends to him, they'd probably start laughing at him again!

So what, exactly, is this telling kids ... that it is OK to laugh at someone as long as they aren't in a position of power, or if they are at some sort of perceived "lower" position than you are?

I prefer the Six White Boomer song. :)

ahhhh ok.... you have issues with the other reindeer.. not rudolf! and i completely understand! and agree!

(and i'm surprised in this day of political correctness.. that they still show it!)

I have been singing and listening to that song all of these years and have NEVER made the connection.

Not to mention the lack of kindness to another that is supposed to be the hallmark of this season (and all year for that matter).

Remember, "ALL of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names".

This would include Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder and Blitzen.

These aren't reindeer that we should be celebrating -- actually, when you think of it, they're really a bunch of ***holes.

Drive your own sleigh you bunch of losers!

Wow. What a day. And we're all going to Christmas Village tonight. THAT should be an interesting ride!

Of course, it could also be viewed as a celebration of overcoming adversity and barriers on the part of Roudolph. Depends on how you would want to view it. I can't imagine that there wouldn't be some sort of "good" message in there for kids. Doesn't excuse some of the other stuff the song contains -- but it does relfect what's out there for many of us during a time in our lives. Do we rise above it? Does the one thing that other's laugh at manage to become the one thing of ultimate value to others? Maybe the message is to those that make fun and call names. If so, then it's a good message.

Outta here!
